Firestore FS100 and Avid workflow

So I've finally got the camera and firestore fs100 playing nice and now I have a folder of mxf files sitting on a partition on my Adrenaline and am trying to figure out the workflow for copying and renaming the files into clips. Can someone help me with this? I've tried "import" but that would negate the "Direct to Edit" hype. I'm running an Adrenaline on PC version 2.24. I started a new project and set up the media creation settings to mxf. I read somewhere on the forum about using the Media Tool to bring in the files, but the tool does'nt recognize any mxf files. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

btw: Is it possible to record Pro50 files on the HVX200 in 16:9, it seems to default to 4:3. I shoot 16:9 Pro50 on the SDX900 all the time. Am I missing something???? Thanks very much!!!

Assuming the FS-100 creates similar mxf's as a P2-card( haven't used one myself yet):

-for bringing the mxf's into the Avid( ie, copying to your local HDD): Copy all mxf's you can find on the FS-100( even in subfolders) to your Avid media directory using windows Explorer. It should be something like 'c:\Avid Mediafiles\mxf\1\'. Now open Avid, and go to the Media Tool. select your current project, and the drive you copied the files to. All files should show up as orphaned clips. Drag & drop into your bin.

-For using the FS-100 directly as a mediadrive: I'm guessing here as I have no clue how the FS-100 records the mediafiles. 2 possibilities:
1- If you have a folder called "Contents" with several subfolders a la 'video', you have a big 'P2-card'. It should show up in your mediatool directly as a normal card.

2- ( most likely): If you have a lot of mxf's in the root-folder or in just 1 subfolder, Avid won't find them. Try putting all the files in a folder called \Avid Mediafiles\mxf\1\ on the FS-100. This should take less than a second as it doens't actually copies the files. Restart Avid, or do an 'unmount all' and 'mount mediadrives'. Then back to Mediatool. Try the manual to see if you can't put the FS-100 into an Avid compatible mode. If I'm not mistaking, the FS-4 had such an option which created an 'Avid Omfi 'folder

I just started testing the FS-100 and Avid HD combo so take this with a grain of salt. I was able to take 720 footage off of the FS100 with the media tool. Had problems with audio and had to do it 60 frame rate project, but it was brought into Avid. I haven't tried eLeventy's second solution step by step but I will. And if someone figures out the best way to do it, please post it.

Got this workflow to work so far

1.Create new project,
2.Choose MXF in the Media Creation settings
3.Create a Avid_MediaFiles\MXF\1 folder on any partition
4.Copy and Paste the mxf files from the Firestore to the above folder, don't drag and drop
4.Import SMPTE bars (MXF) into new project bin on same partition as your transferred files. This tell the Media Tool to look for MXF files
5.Select Media Tool
6.Highlight CURRENT PROJECT only and partition where you built the Avid_MediaFiles folder
7.Drag files into open project bin

***Some post have said to Organize P2 on the firestore before moving the files, this seperates the audio and video files into seperate folders....when I did this I got all kinds of problems with the Adrenaline. Just copy the files off the Firestore.

BTW- I used the above workflow to capture about (10) 30P Pro50 SD files, I did tried to copy 720 60p HD files also and they worked fine.

The problem that I'm having now is adding additional mxf files (after a Firestore format and a second round of shooting) into the above mentioned workflow. The Media Tool on the Avid does'nt see the new files. I trashed the data base, that did'nt help so far. Still searching....I've also been in contact with Avid support......but so far no clear solution. Avid, Panasonic and Firestore need to get together and put out a paper on the correct workflow. Which one of them should I send the invoice for the three days of R&D that I have put into this? If anyone else has any other info please respond to this thread. Thanks much!

As usuall, it was something simple messing me up. I wasn't going to the log file in the FS100 and dragging that content in Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1. Now it seems to work.
