Firestore FS-4 IS coming!

I thought that I would share this with anyone on the board that has hung in there waiting for the Firestore FS-4 to be shipped. I just recieved a phone call from Focus Enhancements confirming my order and the woman said that I should expect it to arrive in two weeks. So there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Finally! Please post a review when you get yours. I'm interested in getting one, but I want to see if they've worked out all the bugs.

It's difficult to imagine there's another gadget I need to be losing sleep over from the category "must have", but just in case, could you give me the 101 on the Firestore?

Record to Hard drive instead of tape - benefits would be that you have two places you are recording - if one fails, you have a backup. Over time, the record heads on the dvx can start to have dropouts - where the image shudders for a brief moment. This could be a problem if it happens in the middle of an important shot - interviewing a CEO or something. Replacing the record heads however is not that expensive. Also, you can start to edit the footage immedately instead of having to caputure when you finish filming. I dont think the cost is justified - DV rack is a better option if you have a laptop.

DV rack doesn't work with Mac is this correct? And if not, is there a comparable program that does (work with Mac)?

I have FCP. This is not the same as DV rack - no? Meaning input/view through the program while recording.

I know the great value of DVRack since I own that too but I want to do two camera shoots and avoid the logging and capturing process. I figure I can plug the camera into DVRack to calibrate it, then plug the FS-4 in and capture with that. Then I plug my external Hard Drive from DVRack and transfer my files, and then repeat the process with the FS-4 and be ready to edit in a fraction of the time.

Sumfun and OB1, I will post a review for you guys as soon as I get it and play with it for a day.

Yippie!! I just hope I can pay for the one I've had on order for a long time. Too much time has given me too much time to find needs for a bunch of other gadgets that I had to have. ;D
