Firestore FS-4 and the DVX

Has anyone here used this combination before? I'm looking for some help.

I sent my FS-4 to repairs a few weeks ago because the audio in half the captured clips in sync mode were about 50% speed.
I just got it back today, and now I'm having more problems.

Anything in 30p mode appears to work fine. No audio mismatches or problems.

I put the DVX into 24pa mode and I put the FS4 into Quicktime 24p mode and I had some problems. The audio is mismatched by about 1.5 seconds. Then, the last 1.5 seconds of video is nothing but mosaic pixel noise.

Any help would be appreciated, else I'm going to have to call up Focus Enhancements again.

I have the FS-4 and there has been continued complaints about this, but Focus enhancement has NEVER addressed this apparent problem in any forum I have seen.

I don't use the 24p mode of the FS-4. I shoot the DVX in 24pN or 24pA and record in the standard AVI II mode. I use Premiere 2.0. I am not sure if this works with QT. But try and see.

I would NEVER buy their new HVX HD model based on the response I have received to my requests and the many others who KEEP asking this.

I assume that since you have received the unit back from them that they have it running the latest firmware?

Be advised that in 24p mode the Camera buffers 2 frames of video to create the 2:3 pulldown and the audio slips two frames That why there is an adjustment in the camera to listen to live audio when using headphones as opposed to the recorded audio. This 2 frame slip is corrected automatically in Premiere and I believe in FCP.

Also I suggest (if you don't already) that you offload the files to your hard drive and then import to your NLE. Don't use the FS-4 as a drive to edit from.

BTW if you are successful in gettig infromation from Focus re this issue please shar it with me and others here. Perhaps suggest they SPECIFICALLY adress this issue on their web site.

Ok, it sounds like you're having basically the same problems I am. :0

I might just stick to AVI2 or Quicktime. Fix the pulldown in post.

That's really lame honestly. Have you ever sent your unit in for repairs?

I am not the only one with this, nor you! This forum has discussed this many times, so has DVInfo and TuCows, a forum that is listed on the Focus web site. But no creditable answer. They e-mailed me to request my Tel# to discuss this but never followed up I have e-mail them Duh! no response.

If you have the DVX 100b the Headphone issues is resolved and the latest NLE's deal with the audio slip in the software in 24p. If you use FCP then check the manual or perhaps others will chime in on this who use FCP as I believe there is no problem.

As I say, using the normal AVI Type 2 mode works with Premiere and I have seen positive comments from FCP users re QT mode (not QT 24) as well but I can't give you personal confirmation.

While I shoot a ton of 24p I also shoot a lot of 60I and the unit is quick and easy for this. But I would not use any of their products in the future just based on their running from commenting on this.
