it takes forever to bring up the main screen. 20-30 mins. if you then run a function the firestore freezes up. it is my strong hope and belief that i still have data on this little box. how can i retrieve it?
I suspect your hard drive is dying or is already dead.
The official answer to your problem is to send the unit to Focus Enhancements for service. I can't tell you if they will make any effort to preserve the data that is on the drive.
If it was my FS-100 and the material on it is important, I would open up the FS-100, remove the drive, get an adapter to connect the laptop IDE drive to the IDE controller in one of my desktops, make an image backup of the drive using Acronis TrueImage, and then start the process of trying to recover the data on the drive.
my vendor is bexel. the on-call engineer i spoke with today is advocating for a similar move if all else fails. thank you very much for the quick response.
