Firestore 2:16 clips .. help

Used 2 HVX200's, each with a Firestore FS100 yesterday and encountered a problem. Each camera was set to 720P/24P and each FS100 was set to DVCPROHD REC. The result is 960x720 clips. FCP sequence is setup using the Easy Setup to 720P/24P.

On camera one, I had a 47 minute duration clip followed by eight 2:16 clips.

Camera two had a string of 2:16 clips with one 7 minute clip.

I imported some of these 2:16 clips to FCP (current version - sorry I'm away from the machine right now) and they play back to back just fine. The problem is that I need to work with the footage from camera one and two as a multiclip. So - I really need the series of 2:16 clips to become one clip so I can synch cam 1 with cam2.

I used this setup in our studio setting 2 weeks ago without a problem.

Thanks.

Mike

Put all of camera 1s clips on one time line.

All of camera 2s on another.

Load each of the timelines as the multiclip.

if that doesn't work, export each timeline as a QT reference clip and reimport.

OK - I have not tried creating multi-clips from sequences. I'll create two separate sequences (timelines) made up of the 2:16 clips from each of the respective cameras. Then I'll try to create a multiclip from those sequences.

QT Reference clip - Is that a quicktime export choice or a choice in Compressor?

I'll try these things first thing. Thanks.

QT reference clip is in the Export > QuickTime option.

What version of FCP are you on? Cause if they are back to back clips that were recorded in one take, 5.1.2 should span them as one long clip. Just wondering...

I'm on FCP 5.1.2 on a Mac Pro and 6.0.3 with the Firestores. The only thing I did differently this time (as far as I know) is plug the firestores in using it's standard AC power source when the batteries started getting low. Again, this is only my second session with cameras and the firestores so I could be doing something really stupid.

It's interesting to me that CAM1 was able to output a 47 minute clip before the series of 2.16 clips. Unfortunately, the 47 minutes was the unneeded material.

I read a clip that mentioned this problem and the user recommended mounting the Firestore to the MacPro and then opening the Firestore drive and removing all but the Clips I want to become one. Then organize P2 and try the import.

I'll let you know what happens. It's nice to have two identical units - because it's happening on both, I tend to believe there is a bug somewhere in 5.1.2 FCP or 6.0.3 FS100.

Thanks again.

Mike

What do you mean by 6.0.3 FC100?

There is a P2 bug in OS X. Clip spanning will not be affected by anything you do to the FS-100, although Focus is working on something to help the FS-100 work around the OS X bug. Clip spanning is purely an FCP 5.1.2 issue.

Go to the FCP Feedback page and complain (along with the rest of us) to Apple about this stupid P2 bug in OS X they need to fix ASAP.

The 5.1.2 clip spanning bug is really an intermittent one. Ben and I (as well as others) have been dealing with Focus on this one. But it is clearly a problem with 5.1.2 since I tested under 5.1.1 without problems. It is also random, as some clips will span properly and others will not.
