For those interested in discussing...

the creators of FACING THE GIANTS are releasing a new film in September called FIREPROOF...

you can view the teaser trailer on their website...

I'm seeing an advanced screening next Monday... I'm hoping the film is a step up from FACING THE GIANTS, even though I did really enjoy that film.

Of course I could be wrong... but casting Kirk Cameron... that's what ruin the Let Behind films... he was no Buck or whatever the character's name was...

Harrison Ford... and even Kiefer Sutherland for a somewhat lesser price was the way to go...

Now in a few weeks I could be eating my words...

Kirk Cameron is very religious. I'm assuming that's why he's a part of this project. I could be wrong.

nothing ruined the left behind films, they were wonderful Christian films, some of the best so far, Christian Films sadly don't get the talent hollywood films get, because Christion filmmakers are black balled just as sure as commies were way back when. if you love Christ, and you decide to express that in your films, you will never be respected in the Film industry. Porn directors are more respected than Christian Directors. Passion was a great example, everyone screamed it was anti semitic, in fact any film that puts a love for Christ in a good light is seen as anti Semitic. Its pretty messed up because when you look at this world the only friends the people of the jewish faith have are Christians. the only people other than jewish people who support Isrial over Palistine are Christions, but put jesus in a good light, and your not respected,

example, I enjoyed Dogma, it was a funny film, but Passion was a better film, better made, better acted, as was left behind. but Dogma was viewed as a wonderful film that really ad something to say, and it did, it said Dick and Fart a lot.

If you are a Christian you have two choises, either ignore your faith when you make your films, and get respect in the industy, or make films that express your love for Christ and be ok with it, cause its all you'll be allowed to do. I'm pretty sure I'm taking the second path. making my first Christian film next month.

I think the problem with most Christian films is that they try to hard to make it about said subject. This is fine going after that niche market of course.

There are many many stories that can be told that could be considered in theme without being in your face.

The reality ? People don't like being preached too just as they don't want people knocking on their doors with the good book in hand.

Just make the films without the agenda.

Here's an interesting read

Again, I think a film can have religious themes and a powerful, positive message; just don't effin force feed it fdown anyones throat.

Agreed with J.R.
Make the films without the agenda. "You have to love god to be a good husband!" (or something) It's like, who writes this? Can it be a little more subtle? There are plenty of movies about religion that are not all preachy, signs for example (even if it's about aliens). Honestly, there are movies that can be made that can still appeal to the niche market without totally alienating everyone else. I suppose however that is half the intent of the film.

I'm not some amazing film-maker, and I'm not trying to discredit anyone. However, I will say watching the trailer for No Greater Love and Fireproof - it almost seems beat for beat the same movie. (except he is not a fireman). I'm sure there is more diversity out there, but I refuse to watch something so blatantly in your face religious. If it's in the trailer with lines like I mentioned earlier, I would have a hard time getting through the film.

we're not talking about faith in film, we're talking about Christ in films. Signs was a great movie very reaffirming, as was the sisteract movies, and they mentioned God many times, its ok to be a man of God or a woman of God, in film, my point is you're not allowed in Hollywood today to place Jesus in a good light, God yes, Allah yes, bhudda Yes, Mahomid yes, Christ no. in fact in the last 20 years the only major hollywood film to focus on Christ and be accepted in Hollywood was a worthless piece of junk that made Jesus look like a sinner, The last Temtation of Christ.

and yes Many people, in fact over 80% of Americans believe you can't have a truly happy life without having Christ in your life, you can't have true love, you can't have meaning. I say to each there own I dont want to force anyone to Christ, just as i dont want others to try to force me away from Him,

Yes you can have God in a good light and deal with Faith without beinf preachy, you can also have Christ in a film without being preachy or antisemitic. but if you try to do it, you'll be put out of the inner industry.

I brought up sister act, great film. came out around the same time as the remake of Cape Fear. the original cape fear was a great film. never brought in religion, in the remake the film starts out showing Denero of a crazy evil Christian. Sister act was a huge hit, Cape fear was a huge flop, America Hated it.

If Hollywood would put Studio money and production value into a well written Christian film, I believe it would be a huge hit, Passion was.

What is the difference between films of faith and films with Christ ? Confused.

Are we talking about a film where the lead character is Jesus himself ?

-

I thought Last Tempation was superb and found it an interesting spin. Was it really a piece of crap or did it attack and question your own beliefs ?

-

you can also have Christ in a film without being preachy or antisemitic

Tough sell there.

Although I'd love to see a remake of The Bible with todays technology.

I guess, to me one problem is the cheese factor. I don't want to say it is there to indoctrinate people. It's more for the crowd that does believe in christ and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm pretty sure what we are talking about is marketability, it's like any film. As I mentioned before, there are many of these films with the same theme and story. Man looses faith in god, stops loving his wife. Something forces man to come to terms with god and invite faith back into his life and learn to love his wife again. Sound familiar? Even the movie I mentioned before "Signs" has this same similar undertone. The difference between that and these films is that these do not have an interesting angle. However, this is my opinion. I'm sure the movie is okay. I do feel though - that Christians or any religious person for that matter can come up with a better storyline. Like say, something that hasn't been done a hundred thousand times. (yes, hollywood has this same problem.) I just feel like it's being made to exploit someones religion to get them to buy a product they wouldn't otherwise buy if they were not religious. That seems like exploitation to me. Of course, you could argue that every film is exploitation of a certain demographic, this one just hits me a lot differently than say... "Barbershop" while it caters to the black demographic it at the same time is largely popular outside it's demographic. (where as tyler perry's movies are basically targeted toward one type of person)

I think when we get to brass tacks here. What I'm really trying to say is that the movies while they could be good, do not deserve to have there message diluted by the idea that you have to be "christian" to "get it".

I'm done, reading way to far into this. I was going to delete the post, but I wrote all that. So you should read it!

but its not about the numbers, with over 80% of Americans being Christian, thats a huge viewing block, and if Holywood would write for that cast for that and shoot for that it would be the biggest film known to man. 80% of all Americans please. so it isn't the numbers keeping good Christian films from being made. if in Sister act Whoopy had said once or twince helpme Jesus, rather than God or lord, or put Jesus in one song Rather than God, it would not have hurt the film in fact it probably would have added a few bucks to the till. but its not about numbers its about hollywood being out right anti Christian. but its Changing, Thank Jesus for that.

J.R. I'm sorry but De Niro coming in under whoopie? make no mistake about it, if they would have dropped the anti Christian portions of the film, it would have been the biggest movie of the year. it wasn't even close to second. and in this day of age, 79mill on a huge hollywood film isn't a hit.

we aren't really talking religion, we're talking about Hollywood's views on one group of people who happen to be Christian, but no one here is debating whether Christianity or Islam or any other religion in the way, or not the way. we are talking about a certain type of film on a film forum.

Well, from you post above:
but its not about numbers its about hollywood being out right anti Christian. but its Changing, Thank Jesus for that.
You've got an offensive post right there.

What about this one?

I say to each there own I dont want to force anyone to Christ, just as i dont want others to try to force me away from Him,

That clearly is a message on the topic of religion.

I'm just sayin'. The forum guidelines are there for a reason. Some people are always offended. It's a slippery road. Like discussing Michael Moore films.
