my friend at work got fired today! work isn't gonna be the same w/out him. good times!

fired b/c he made reference to some dude's nipple ring's. it was a joke! the guy w/ the rings told the fu*king manager and she took it from there. i feel bad, b/c i was in on it also, but he never mentioned my name. damn! i gotta help dude out.

what should i do?
 
Is this a situation where your friend was already in bad standing and the nipple ring comment was an easy excuse to can him? Was the nipple ring guy a customer? What was the nature of the comment? Was it blatantly offensive or more good natured or something in between? Was the pierced nipple concealed or out in the open for all to see (and ridicule)? While this is far from cut and dried, it seems that an exposed nipple is at least a little more open to ridicule with impunity than a concealed nipple. After all, you want people to notice it if it's out there in the open so making a comment is a somewhat logical progression from there. Not that your friend had the right to be a total asshole, but at least he's got a little more breathing room if the nipple was, indeed, conspicuous.

If the manager already wanted to get rid of your friend, I'm guessing you're out of luck. If not, maybe you could talk to her and tell her the nipple guy blew things out of proportion or something?
 
Lesson learned, don't get too comfortable at work. Keep the casual language and bad jokes for your own time.

Sorry to hear about your buddy, but chances are that you're one step away from where he is. Lay low, work your ass off, and like Horse said, don't get yourself fired trying to help out.
 
Worry about yourself Aaron. It appears there were other issues at hand than an off-color remark over Nipple Rings (Nasty by the way). You guys go get a beer after work, other than that worry about yourself and business
 
Someone got fired because a "guy" made a reference to another "guys" nipple rings??!! Something tells me we're not getting the whole story. What "exactly" was said?

Was your friend an intern? Did he make comments about another intern or about an employee? Did he make derogatory comments about this person?

basically we were at a party last wkend. we found out this guy had nipple rings and his EX girlfriend had a tounge ring. so my friend calls his EX girl and says "hey does ur tounge ring get caught in your boys nipple ring?" WE ALL WORK TOGETHER. the girl was so drunk like talkn about her ex boyfriend and everything. she was even tryin to get me to leave w/ her! so we figure she would take it as a joke, and blow it off. NO, she tells her EX and he emails my friend sayin that "he doesnt appreciate that comment and blah blah blah". so my friend apologizes. the guy w/ the nipple rings goes and tell the MANAGER! STUPID! it was a freakin joke. usually men would laugh it off or just say dont do it again, and the issue would be over. but he had to act all bad and tell the manager. its crazy b/c his EX girl was tryin to get me to leave with her, and.......................
 
yeah this sucks! he was kew guy. i got his back though. i told him holla at me if he need anything. even though i didnt physically say anything to neither the dude or girl, he never mentioned my name.
 
I've hung out with many a co-workers 'other' at many an office function; drinking, partying....

and never have called that 'significant other' after that night

Your friend needs to get a clue. Lesson learned hopefully.
 
no we did all this at work. we just called the girl desk and asked her that question which was suppose to be a joke, and she told her retard ex boyfriend.
 
You did this at work?:shocked: Bad move... That sounds like sexual harassment. Probably how the girl looked at it.
 
yeah he is. im gonna stay out of the whole situation and just do my work and get the hell out of there. if dude says anything to me OUTSIDE OF WORK at a party or anything its gonna be the worst fuc*in day of his life!

and im not even a violent person. but i dont understand how a guy cant take a joke!

i actually want someone to throw a party so i can go and see him there. hehe. :) im gonna invite my friend that got fired, and that his ASS!!!!!!!!!

Did said friend do this off work premises? He was at work when he emailed/spoke with nipple ring did he? If so, then the manager over stepped her bounds on dismissal. This is not sexual, racial, religious harassment.
Finally, do you have a company hand-book? Check out termination procedures. Unless your buddy was written up on at least one other occasion, termination for just about ANY offense--exception is drug/alcohol use, certain sexual harassments--on the first occasion is EXTREMELY rare.
Have your bud check with an employment lawyer liscensed to practice in your state...a nice fat settlement might assuage his hurt and devastated feelings!
