The only time I had issues with my firestore was when I tried to make a cable longer than 6 feet. It work and looked like it was recording fine for a while, but then started stopping on it's own, and not starting unless I rebooted it. I ended up with a ton of bad footage. Learned my lesson and now use only a 6 foot FW cable. I wouldn't even recommend using a 14 footer just because of what I experienced with a longer cable. Oh and when I did try that cable I was only recording dv, not HD.
