Finnish Fireworks Championships 2007

Every year the largest Fireworks companies in Finland bid for the contract to organize the New-Year fireworks display in the capital city; Helsinki.

And what better way to bid for a fireworks contract, than to have a Fireworks "shoot out" competition!

Each company puts together a display to music, the displays are then fired back-to-back over Helsinki, with the music broadcast on a local radio station. Over 100,000 people show up to watch the show. The winner is decided by a panel of 10 judges.

And of course I took my camera...

Those are some really impressive shots. I just got my Rebel XTi and am going to test it out today at the horse races. I'm fairly new to photography, but the first and last shot look incredible to me. Fireworks aren't exactly easy things to take pictures of.
