Finding out much time is on the heads

Hello!

Although I do not actually own a DVX100, I am contemplating a deal my film professor is selling. He is selling a used DVX100 for 2100 dollars...here's what he said:

"The camera was bought in 2004 and is in excellent condition.
It has been very infrequently used; although I don't know the
hours, it is very few. It has no blemishes and has always had
a UV filter on so the lens is perfect. Extras include
additional batteries and a shotgun mic holder attachment. No
remote or bag."

My first question: Is this a legit deal for 2100 dollars?

Second question: Is there anyway I can view how much time has been put on the heads of the camera to see its usage? Obviously this is my biggest concern.

If anyone could help me out that'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like a good deal if the head hours aren't too high. You can check that by going into the menu, select "7. Other Functions", then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the last page. That will tell you the head hours.

Just Curious, what would a lot of hours be?

The head life on a DVX has been estimated to be anywhere from 1000 to 3000 hours (or perhaps beyond), so I guess it's your call. I'd say the life would be closer to 3000 than 1000, if treated well.

Thanks for that information. I'll definitely ask to check it out. If the head life isn't too high maybe I'll buy it.

Anyone else have comments?
