Finding Frame Rate?

Is there a way in the camera in playback mode to tell what format the tape is being played back in? For example if I have I have 24p and 24PA footage on the same tape with no color bars or slate in the middle of the two how can I tell which is which because I would need to set up my editing system differently for each. I normally shoot everything on one tape in one format but I do have a tape with some 24p stuff and 24PA stuff on it.

Re: Finding Frame Rate?

I don't think so, though it can be apparent to sight which is which.

What's your setup that you need to change settings to capture each?

Re: Finding Frame Rate?

How can you tell? I can't tell just by looking at the monitor. I have Final Cut Pro. I can tell the difference between 60i and 24p of course but 24p and 24p advanced....na you got me on that one. I just know that one has to have the pulldown removed.

Re: Finding Frame Rate?

When you capture, you capture as 60i. The pulldown removal comes later, when you work in the project. You don't particularly need to do anything special to capture. I think you're all set.

24pA is a little bit more strobic than 24pN when viewed on an NTSC screen. The difference is subtle, but apparent in scenes with motion if you know what to look for.

Re: Finding Frame Rate?

Push the COUNTER button a few times (inside the LCD panel, lower-left). It'll toggle between timecode, counter, user bits, and frame rate. That way you can see if it's 24P, 24PA, 30P or 60i as you play the footage back.

Re: Finding Frame Rate?

See? That's what I get for having almost never used the DVX for playback. Good show, Green!
