Finaly!  DVX100a is 3000 steps closer

Got a visit from my grandparents, and I was told that they had put some money into stock specifically for me, and that after some time it had grown to $2700 which, along with what I had begun saving for a DVX100a, puts me at about $3500.
So I'm finaly going to be getting it.

Looking around, I find the lowest price from a possibly legitimate site, Profeel.com, to be about 3200. This also comes with the Magic Bullet software so it looks like my best bet. I would like to know if Profeel is legitimate, if their package deals (batteries, DV tapes, carrying case, filter, warranty, etc...) are decent deals. I would rather avoid paying $400 to get the cheapest accessories they had.

I've read tons about Rush and his DVX deal and that's my 2nd choice simply because it'll still cost a few hundred more (I think. I'm unsure about taxes and shipping. Any tips about that would be greatly appreciated)

I'm really excited about finaly getting that camera, even though it'll probably be a month before I actually RECEIVE it.
I just want to make sure I'm making the best choice. But I can't stress that cost is my #1 priority. I expect to, overall, pay almost $4000 when all is said and done with package deals. Then I have to get a car mount...

Thanks for any help you can give me. DVXuser is invaluable to me.

I wish you good luck with your DVX. And please say thank you again to your grandparents. I have just recieved my re-payment letter from my student loan...$3500. My first of MANY.

I'm not sure if Profeel is an official pan. dealer. There's some ratings site linked to in one post that has Profeel listed at about 8.5, I believe.

I'm thinking I'll just call them as if to order, get all information and figure final costs, and then contact Rush and see what he gives me.

As for warranties, it's a little too convoluted to really figure out at this point, and my parents tell me they'll just put the DVX in our electronics insurance. So if something happens to the camera, I'll just get $3000 and have to buy a new one.

I would buy from EVS unless you are in California. They sell for about 3,300 and are authorized. If your camera breaks, buying it from an authorized dealer helps a lot and the dvx is NOT cheap to repair. Your grandparents are ridiculously generous, but it's good to see that you're spending the money on something creative. I remember back in high school there were kids who were offered $30,000 cars if they got A's and B's, and there was another student whose parents hired a high priced lawyer to get him out of juvenile detention center and back into school after his expulsion for intent to sell marajuana (I think he had about an ounce on him.) So 3 grand towards a camera doesn't make you too spoiled!

EVS is definitely the place to buy, though. My friend works for an audio store and he offered to get me a microphone for 10% over invoice. Oddly enough, EVS was somehow able to get me the SAME microphone for 10 dollars LESS than his company's invoice price. And shipping cross country in two days cost 16 dollars (this was a pretty large item too).

I like the user name, btw.; eraserhead is a masterpiece of low budget film making and the cinematography is spectacular given the budget. I've even heard that David Lynch lit largely using work lights like the ones you can buy at home depot. And the lighting was fantastic! Of course, the sound design is probably eraserhead's greatest innovation, but the rest was pretty amazing as well and David Lynch is a certified genius even if he seems to have something seriously wrong with him. (And no one in any of his movies can act at all! Either that or they intentionally act poorly, which I believe was the case for much of Mullholland Drive.)

Anyhow, enjoy the camera. Don't expect any miracles (the dynamic range is nothing like film's) and you should be extremely happy and impressed. The learning curve is definitely there, but I'd rather have to take a couple hours learning every function to get a good image than not be able to get the image I'm looking for in the first place.

And don't forget to buy a UV filter for protection (and make sure you get a good one; mine is pretty bad.) Your lens costs about 800 to replace; a UV filter costs 20-30 dollars.

There is another posting in this section that said Profeel.com is not an authorized dealer. EVS is great and Rush will work hard to make sure you are happy. EVS sells it for around 3379. ProMax is also an authorized dealer and they also have great customer service and may even be a few bucks cheaper than EVS. Both of those stores do not charge a lot for shipping.

So your best bet for an authorized dealer is EVS and then Promax.
