*** Just thought I'd update this post as the film is getting a national broadcast on the PBS series America ReFramed on Jan. 14th, 2014 at 8PM eastern (with subsequent re-airings). You can check this link to see if your local station will air the film ("check the schedule" on the right column).

I can finally post something that I consider far more interesting than most of the corporate type stuff I've posted in the past. This is an independent documentary we are producing and have been shooting for the past year. We are still in production, but cut together a trailer to help us start building an audience. The whole film is AF100 except a few shots, and in this trailer I believe only one shot is from a GH1. Overall I've been extremely impressed with the AF100's performance on this film. Some of the first shoots we did were right when I got the camera, so I still had to figure out some of the kinks and that may show in some scenes.

Love it, watched it twice! Great title, too (hopefully it doesn't lead to Death of a Salesman...)

Great CUs, and I love the late afternoon WS at :50.

Good luck with the project, and... did you pick up a suit???

Thanks Ed and Grove!

Ed - POV is the goal actually, but I have no illusions over just how impossible it is to get on that strand. But we can hope!

No suit yet. Not sure I could ever pull one off!

Beautiful! I love the insert of the rusty lock, the interview setup looks right out of Frontline. How great are the colors of those suits? And as mentioned above, the sunset exteriors are smoking. Beautiful work with the AF100. The music is great and the story just draws you in. I want to see that one! Great work!

Thanks so much hscully! One of the main reasons we were originally drawn to the story was the abundance of visuals. And the characters are also great.

Thanks! The settings changed over time. The last 5 months or so I've been using B.Press with Norm1. I can't remember all the other settings off the top of my head (don't have the camera at home), but I think the Master Ped is -2, and sharpness is -4 on both, saturation +1, and can't remember coring. I had started shooting the film with HDNorm and Norm2, but really didn't like how flat it looked, and found that it was better to shoot more for the look I already wanted to achieve. I can check the camera tomorrow for exact settings if you want.

Lenses are almost all the Lumix 20mm or a Zeiss 50mm f2 Makro. Throughout filming I have tossed in the 14-140 (mainly when out on the street for wides and tele shots) and one day used the 7-14, but only a handful of shots from that will make it into the final film. Overall I find the 20mm and 50mm is all I need. We are deliberately trying to shoot the entire film locked down whenever possible. It has been a big challenge, coming from shooting my last independent doc on a Canon XHA1 where I had a crazy zoom range in one lens. It's made me really think differently about how I shoot, but overall I think it's much better. I occasionally use a monopod if I think I'll need to be moving around a lot in a scene. The first couple shoots I did not use my DP6, but since I have rarely shot without. I had focus issues the first couple shoots without it, so now it is much easier to get that sharp focus.

Cool, thanks. I like HDNorm for night interiors. It is pretty clean. BPress looks great. Both are so clean. I think it's a nice choice to be locked down. It works in a way to make each shot deliberate and, for my tastes, higher in production value than say hand held. Great stuff

Thanks again hscully, that's exactly what we are going for.

Keylight, I have - but something specfic you are referring to?

Others are right, POV would be a good place for your doc. As for the Redbook, nothing specific. Just thought I'd make sure you're aware of it. Very nice trailer by the way.

Ah ok. Our last film was broadcast on PBS World and a bunch of individual stations, and that was all HDV so I'm hoping AVCHD is fine. In the end as long as you send them an HDCAM (hopefully soon a digital file instead) they don't know the difference. But again POV only takes a handful of over a thousand submissions so not holding my breath!

Beautiful, loved the score, the shots, the cut, the grade. Well,,,, Might just be easier to say I LOVED IT. Make sure to send me a copy when you finish or a link to watch it.
