Ever since I 'upgraded' from XP my JVC 110shave caused me grief - firewire just refusing to co-operate. One of the oft quoted cures on the net was to roll back the firewire driver to the legacy version, but neither of my cameras worked with any of my firewire equipped PCs. I bought a macbook, and my workflow with these cameras was capture on the mac, copy the files to the PCs - a real fudge. Today I was prepping some gear for a big job where we'll be away for ten weeks, and decided to take the two 110s. I've got somebody here finishing some editing while we're away, so decided to take the audio studio main computer, because it's also got Premiere on it. It's Windows 7, but it does have a firewire card in it to talk to a Behringer X32.
I tried, just for a laugh, the JVC into the firewire - got the usual bing-bong as it connected, but no video. The firewire card has one small firewire connector and two full size ones, and I was using the small one. I fell over a big to big cable and thought I may as well try that too, and after the bing-bong - up came the picture!
I always thought the only difference was DC power on the full size connector - but something else must be different, because for the first time since I bought them I have pictures on a modern PC.
I have no idea why this computer combination works and the others don't. It's very strange.
