Finally got a D90

I finally took the plunge and bought a used d90 with kit. I'm going to buy the 50mm f1.8D to go along with it.

Is there anything i MUST KNOW for video recording? The do's and don'ts?
I read the sticky and it had ALOT of good info.

Also, i know the video has a 5min limit. Is this 5min per clip only? or 5min for live view. Can live view be on the whole time? For example, can live view stay on for 30 min, and just click ok on and off before 5 min are up? Does that make sense? So, will keeping live view for over 5 min overheat sensor or whatever else? THANKS!

Anything would be nice.

Thanks everyone for the support!

ps. i just know a new D90s or D95 is going to come out next month, i have a feeling. It always happens.

Welcome to the club.

Yes, you can leave the D90 in live view for more then 5 minutes with out recording but doing so will increase the chances of the camera overheating. Live view shouldn't be seen as a typical LCD screen on a video camera. It would be best if you can try to frame up a shot using the eyepiece and only use the LV mode to get exposure, check final framing and roll. This will keep the sensor from overheating.

I have left my LV on for 10 minutes plus while the director was looking at a shot. Never caused a problem but not something I like to practice regularly. The camera has overheated on 2 different shoots, both were because I left LV on to frame for more then 10 minutes, outdoors on hot days.

Yes 5 minutes per clip. You can roll to 5 minutes and pop it right back up and record another 5 minutes.

Will you be editing in FCP?

thanks for the tip. i will be editing using Premiere. I took some sample video, and it's incredible, even straight out the box.
