Finally caved and got a Vimeo pro account - posted some new GH13 videos

link me the download.. thanks.
i use sorenson squeeze with 10+ brightness. is that possible on this software? as you see, it makes a difference.

The download is on the vimeo page on the lower right side if you scroll down a lilttle bit you'll see it:

I popped the $60 for a year on vimeo so now my files will stay up. That was very annoying when all my 1080p stuff got re-encoded to 720p.

As to sorenson squeeze, no, I assume that's a mac plugin. I'm a Win 7 pc guy. I need blu-ray. I edit mostly on Sony Vegas Pro 9e but I am thinking of moving over to Edius 6 fully.

mac? who's using mac?

+42

Some people are still brainwashed that it is the only way to edit. While my gaffer dumps footage and is waiting two hours for it to transcode to prores on his $6000 macbook pro, I have finished editing on Edius 6 and handed the client a blu-ray out of my $1700 win 7 laptop.

But let us speak in hushed tones before they sick the dogs on us. Tell me more of this squeeze thing.

First of all I have the top-of-the-line 15" Macbook Pro (2.8Ghz i7, Nvidia 330M 512MB, 8GB RAM) and it was like $2500 not $6,000 lol.

Final Cut is not the only way to edit on a mac, you could do native in CS5 with CUDA. Works great. I don't like Premiere that much though so I work in Final Cut, but my footage transcodes wicked fast and I get the security of working with a proper workflow and an I-frame codec. Makes editing go really really fast and smoothly as well.

I have a 2.6GHZ AMD quad-core PC with 8 gigs of RAM and a Radeon HD 5770 that I use for Maya, games, and some After Effects work, though with the new MBP I am doing more and more of my work on the mac.

Price vs Performance PC wins, but I would still prefer to use a Mac any day.

a matter of the brain getting used to something..
it's like i just cannot edit on nothing but avid. tried them all. almost smashed the computer after 5 minutes.

Blackout - you will be tipping that hat to El Stevo once Apple unleashes Final Cut Prodigious! :)

Hey... I have no brand loyalty... I use what works best for me.. you use what works best for you. If I got on a mac and I liked it, I'd be using it. I have, and I didn't so I don't. The fact that it's not very blu-ray or avchd friendly is just a deal killer for me personally and I am not a fan of the 'borg' mentality of 'mac' or nothing of CERTAIN mac individuals. Some mac people are so crazy that they act like fundamental Christians and try and convince you you are under the spell of satan if you're not using mac and they try and 'convert' you. That annoys me. I like me $29 4 gig sansa clip better than any ipod.

Blackout, I salute you. You and those who have the same impartial, logical philosophy as you are why Apple will only manage to own 99.999% of the consumer electronics market in the coming years. It's refreshing to know there will always be those who Think Different. :)

Of course, just kidding around. Seriously, I use 'em, but I'm not one of those crazy Mac fanatics. In fact, my first computer (many years ago) was an original NEC laptop - only began using Macs after not being able to figure out how to install Word Perfect on the NEC - after two days of trying! I finally gave up, got an Apple and have stayed with Macs really only because I'm basically too lazy to switch and most likely still too dumb to figure out how to use a PC. Yeah, I freely admit it. You may think I'm joking, but my mind just goes to mush around PCs - not sure what it is exactly now that they look and act pretty much the same. And +1...what's up with Apple and no Blu-ray? And no floppy? I miss those. Next thing you know Apple will be trying to get rid of DVDs - just like Netflix.

Rumor is next macbook pro won't have an optical drive, and honestly good riddance. That's really why they're not supporting Blu-Ray, because making higher and higher capacity optical formats is like making better and better horse-drawn carriages 20 years after everyone is driving around in cars.

I would love to agree with you on this but the real reason they are not supporting blu-ray is because they are in a war with sony and apple doesn't want you owning any of your content and Sony doesn't want blu-ray on apple. Apple doesn't want you to EVER own your content, they want you streaming it with ridiculous bulky license bullocks from the itunes store. I thought Windows vista was BAD, really BAD and bloated, but there is NO PIECE of software I HATE more than ITUNES! The whole 'no optical media' thing is ridiculous right now as sometimes you just don't have or want an internet connection to be your only source of input. That puts TOO much power in the companies that control the wire.

I want my media at the data rate I WANT IT AT on the format I WANT IT ON.... blu-rays are robust and CHEAP and a GREAT safe storage method. I trust my filed away blu-ray backups more than my stored hard drives! 16 or 32 gb SD cards are still pricey and dangerous.. ever got a static zap from dry weather wipe out all your data on a SD card? I have... that doesn't happen on a $1 blank 25 gig blu-ray. They are 50 times more scratch resistant than DVDs.. I did some tests and gave some verbatim bd-r discs a good beating and my data was still recoverable.

As for streaming, it just isn't there yet and it's a delivery format not a mastering backup format.... it's close, but unless you are paying TOP PREMIUM most people can't stream 1080p without stutters especially during high peak hours when youtube and vimeo turn to crap - while the blu-ray plays perfect every time all the time at a STUNNING 38mbits avchd that just can't be touched with current streaming services.
