Finally caved and got a Vimeo pro account - posted some new GH13 videos

Blackout

Veteran
My server has been hit very hard so I finally caved and upgraded to vimeo pro or plus. I am still a little unhappy that vimeo doesn't stream native 1080p but at least I will now have another place to put up videos because my blackout.com server is running at max capacity from all the raw .mts files and the media I have on there.

In any case here is a 'work in progress' early edit of the film noir 1940s speakeasy jazz club / half modern thingy I have been working on, and at least now my files will stay up and be downloadable. You really have to download the 1080p to see the quality 720p just doesn't cut the mustard even if it's that yellow watery mustard.

This is a rough preview edit of the upcoming "In Love With You" music video from artists LiVE & Monsta Villa off the Beauty & the BEAST album from the Skyline Studios label. The look we are going for is sort of a 1940s film noir "Harlem Nights" meets Jessica Rabbit in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" where she sings "do right" in the jazz club scene, but obviously modernizing it a little bit for the musical style.

Note: This is just a rough first preview edit for the client,

This is only a rough preview edit there are many pieces missing, many elements are not properly cleaned up or missing, color correction and mastering are not finished.

We are shooting a pickup day in the next week or two. Needed actors and dancers will be contacted. Thanks to everyone for the hard work and we look forward to completing the principal photography on the pickup day and having a final master done about the first or second week of February.

Vimeo does stream 1080p if you check the box on the video's settings.

Only for people who pay pro or for anyone? Where is this box??!
Looking all over and can turn scaling on or off, hd on or off, but no stream 1080p button anywhere... what am I missing?

OOOOH! Never mind.. I found it buried in the setting on the top menu yet it is nowhere in the setting menu with the huge "SETTINGS" icon.
Well this is a pleasant surprise. Now to see how it's 1080p streaming is compared to youtubes which I have mastered....

Thanks for this I had no idea it's not mentioned anywhere! I probably would have upgraded a while ago. I'm a 1080p whore.

It's a good look and you got the right feel. Thinking there might be a tad too much smoke in some scenes. Unless the smoke has a point I'm missing.

Yeah there are several takes with varying layers of smoke from a fine mist to laying it on thick... I just threw this edit together quick for the client to see something.

Is it playing correctly for you? I went and hit the enable play 1080p stream native button and now it's all garbage for me...

Ok odd. Updated ATI catalyst drivers and now everything is playing fine and it is streaming some nice 1080p but I swear to god my black levels just all went up. I remember it being more contrasty. Now it's more 'grey' hence the smoke showing more.

Time to re-calibrate everything... ughhh....

I am considering getting a Vimeo account after my Dreamhost VPS kept choking on lack of ram by simply hosting a 500MB test video on this website.

How do you compress for uploading 1080p to vimeo? They have a file size limit of 2 GB which stopped me from uploading a full HD version of this.

I really think vimeo has greatly improved their codec at least for paying people over what it was. I used to hate it and wondered why anyone woud use it but here you tel me this is looking pretty damn good for a streaming video:

Does that look better or this, the youtube encode wich currently comes up #1 if you search clearest youtube encode ever:

My brain is fried at this point and I need to sleep. Remember to be sure to watch both in full 1920 1080p hd on a native monitor

I like it, as said before the smoke was a bit too thick, but as you said, easily can swap it with another take. Im just laughing at the first line the guy rapping says. "WHY WOULD YOU WANT A STINKY NIGGA LIKE ME, cant remeber, but hen he says he smell like ground beef?? lol. Now I see why it's called beauty and the beast. None the less, nice work Blackout!!

I am pretty sure the smoke has a purpose, I mean look at how happy they all are :P
bane you have no idea.....

Some off the smoke was my smoke machine..... some of it was from the mexican craft services, but a LOT of it was not either of those!

i liked the indoor shots..
outsides were a little too clipped at times..View attachment 27743

Thanks... that was really my very first hacked codec stress test after I had tweaked the hack to my liking. The big stress test being the crazy clothes and diagonal lines in the back yard clothesline scene. That scene fell apart on my Canon 7d (no longer mine.. now some poor soul on ebay owns it). I was overjoyed when I saw it for the first time pulled off the newly hacked GH1, I literally started jumping up and down in happiness.

Both vimeo and youtube also change the light levels a little when they re-encode - did you download the mp4 15mbit master? I know I clipped a lil bit but it was just a tad I preferred the clip to a darker overall image.
