Finally a GoPro 4 vs GoPro 3+ Review

Finally found some comparison videos of the new 4 vs 3+ if anyone is interested. I thought the 4 was going to be miles ahead of the 3+ in terms of overall IQ, low light and battery life but I'm not sure anymore.

I have both and I will say I don't regret buying the 4 for a second. 4K is delicious and 4k down sampled to 1080 is as detailed as my C100.

Love to see comparisons based upon the down sampled 4K and the C100.

I just don't see a quantum, much less, significant leap in detail between the GoPro Hero 3 or 3+ and the 4 based on what footage is available.

I thought the difference in most of the leaf detail (1st video) was quite significant. The 3 had mush where the 4 had actual detail. Some scenes looked fairly close though.

I agree that there was more detail in the leaves, although it seemed very heavily compressed. Not sure how much was from the camera & how much from YouTube.

Edit: you can also see more detail in this shot with her hair.

+1

Wouldn't it looked worse down sampled since the 4k footage is more heavily compressed in camera than the 1080?

Vimeo provides two pass compression, and usually gives a better view of what the cam is actually producing over YouTube.

But Hero 4 = C100 for detail is what would be nice to evaluate.

surprised there isn't better low light performance. i agree that the overall image is sharper like on the tree leafs but not really noticeable on other things as much. at times i though i was seeing a slight more aliasing on the 4 which makes me think they are sharpening in camera a bit more...at least on the default settings? maybe the lens is rendering more detail.

so then the black is really about higher frames rates and 4k which i am ticlked to death to have. no complaints even though i was a little surprised a few other things weren't improved a bit more.

In the first video from 3:09 to 3:13 I didn't notice much difference.

However, I was distracted :)

I would want to see a comparison of the GoPro 4 4K footage downscaled to 1080p against the GoPro 3+ 1080 footage, as I don't think you're going to see much difference unless you shoot 4K and downscale.
