Final Result short, a beat in the making

Man, I'm happy that you like it Chris! Really.... It took me two hours to shoot, about an hour to dump, maybe four hours to edit and CC and two days of hating the fact that I didn't have any lighting... lol The final track was something that I made like a year ago...

Again, thanks for your feedback Chris.

coffee,

good to see you working man! i, too, loved all your tight shots the mostest!

the dolly at the beginning was cool, for some reason i just noticed the one little stutter coming out of the quick cut, but you know im trying to be picky here...lighting of course has been covered and that is really the only thing that hurt the piece.

keep it up man, this was a cool look of an artist at work, and it flowed very well! and the tunes kept my sub rumbling, nice!

i watched it twice through and it was even better the 2nd time.

Hey cousin...

I can't really add too much... I, too, loved this. Especially the angles and the dolly move...great job. Like Master Hudson, I really liked the close up shot of the vinyl with the out of focus background and the guy walking up to them.

I also have to agree with everyone....you need lighting, but I guess you already figured that out :) Looking forward to seeing the next piece you do, especially once you get that light kit and get the Letus35 running.

Peace,
Larry

yo yo yo B
that was off the hizzle fo shizzle, know whad I sayin?

Ok I'm done frontin' as a faux hip hop ... per ... dude ... guy ...

Ha ... that was cool :cheesey:

Yes--dolly shots and record shots are my faves, like most.

One thing you can do without lighting is get your master ped down and make sure your iris is letting as much light into the cam as possible without blowing anything out. The opened iris will give you a clean noiseless image that has more dynamic range in the top end. The lower Master ped well help keep it from looking washed out as there will be parts of the image that are black and give you dynamic range on that end. As you know you can alwasys darken the image in post, you can brighten to a degree but not before washing it out and introducing noise.

Now ideally you want to add enough light so that you can set your iris to 5 (or is it 4?) the sweetspot for the leica lens that will give the sharpest focus, but it has worked well for me to crank the exposure as bright as possible without over exposing. Disjecta shoots with teh master ped at -5 and I crank it down to -12. I know you are working with G Film so slap some S curve on there, play with bleach bypass and it will be sweet!

But this was a cool short that captured a nice vibe and had some great shots in it.

Nice shots! Dig the sound, too! OK - I couldn't help but put this page through gizoogle (just go to gizoogle.com and put in the url above: http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/showthread.php?t=40734&page=3 and it will translate everything to crap like ...

"Izzle Final Result short, a beat in tha mak'n

I loved the pace of it...real raw and edgy. Perfect for the overall concept! Editing was great too....I liked the use of film splices but especially the use of sound, and the way the music held together the cuts....

as a loops, beats, and samples musician myself I was really pleased to watch this "little" project, it was a definite pleasure to watch. Now I'm really psyched to see what you'll do when you spend more than a couple of hours, watch out!

Hey Coffee,

For something that was shot with nearly no lighting, it was really good. I liked the opening sequence. It looks really film like. The whoe stuff is nice.
Oh, I liked the font as well.
I shot something without any lights, and it was really crap. Man, you are there.

Keep shooting. Don't stop!!!!

All the best

Fidel.

Edit: If I can remember well, that is your own studio, right?

I'll keep shooting for sure. I'm excited that you guys like it. Your responses make me feel that my progress is in the right direction considering that I've never edited my own stuff and have only been making films for under a year.

I can't wait to get these damn lights so that I can learn how to properly light things.....

Jack, thanks for the pointers! You know I'm going to try your advice out... Actually this weekend I'll play around with it.

Shawn, thanks man. Hey, what kind of music do you do?

Actually I don't know how to describe it, though perhaps it's soundtrack/cinematic. I hope it will find its way into films, which is honestly the reason I picked up the DVX, because I always saw scenes form a movie when I listened to my stuff, and I got tired of waiting to find a filmmaker to work with. http://thegospelofgroove.com/audio/

Hey coffee, it's nice to see someone using an asr-10, me and my cohorts all use mpc's. I have to admit I first saw this clip with no sound when I was mixing an album yesterday but after reading the replys I redownloaded and played it with sound which made all the difference. At first I was thinking man this is kinda' rough looking without audio but the sound makes this piece happen, the breathing, the effects, and the music are great(except for that tom roll on every bar).

Props, and tell us how them lights work out for you.

You achieved a nice sense of depth in that first shot... the way the forground rack units moved faster than the background stuff. Really nice pacing throughout.

And that beat kicks some ass.

Yea... the ASR10 is nice.......

I'm still holding on to my Ensoniq EPS...... You just can't get that grimmy hip hop feel/sound on the newer crop. But I wouldn't trade my 2000XL or Triton Xtreme for anything.

Jay, you made me load up sounds in my EPS...... Now..... IT's On!!!!!!

Shawn Murphy, I hear ya brother! That's why I got music, I had lyrics that I wanted to hear recorded so I did it myself. They sucked, but at least I tried. lol I checked out your site, I love the music! Would you be up to scoring one of my shorts?

LostInSound, thanks man. I used to have an mpc but just didn't like it. Too limitted and besides I came fro the mp12 : )

..of course, and glad you liked it.

Nice work Coffee. The shot when he grabs the records is cool. I think the beginning shots were better than the studio shots. A little dark in the studio. But the compositions are good. I didn't like the quick cuts because the shot before and after was too static. Try a fast dissolve instead if that was the footage you have to work with. If you want to use fast cuts like that, change the angle and composition between the cuts. I remember reading advice from Walter Murch about that.
