Final Destention 2 Death Recreation

Has anyone ever seen the kill in the movie where the kid chases the birds and the glass thing comes down on him and he his body just kinda crushes. I want to figure out a way to do if not this something like it (basically have someone being impaled by a falling heavy object, could be anthing). This is the scene if u haven't seen it. thanx

Wow, just goes to show you how some people "jump the gun" (in this insistence me). I was completely mistaken about you. But getting back to the effect its odd because I go to Video Copilot all the time and i never came across that effect, so thanks ill check that out now.
 
Yea I'm not sure what u were referring to but just went to the site and found nothing on CGi. It could have been removed I really don't know. Thank you anyway
 
Andrew Kramer has never had any tutorials on a boulder smashing someone (wish he did!) The example you saw was simply that, an example from his Action Pack Essentials DVD. As for the clip, it is a practical effect, if you rent or own the DVD, their is a featurette with the SFX coordinator talking about how it was a mix of live action, and use of a dummy filled with blood.

Another way to do it is to shoot on a tripod, one scene with a guy looking up and the other with something falling. Then combine the shots and maybe use a transition to erase the guy as the falling object hits him. If it goes fast enough it'll look good.

The Final Destination shot obviously uses a dummy or CG.
 
I actually recommend watching the behind the scenes of any one of the Final Destination movies (in your case 2). . .I know for a fact that I remember watch a step by step breakdown of how exactly they did that.(and every other death) It was very insightful and interesting.

I went to the video store and picked up FD 2 and they had explanations on every death scene so Thanks Alot!!! :D
