I just started getting my feet wet with after effects and I want to know if there is a way to use Final Cut and After Effects together. How do I start a final cut project and send it to after effects for special effects and then back into Final Cut! Please Help! Thanks in advance

FCP and AE do not have anything as seamless as the FCP > Motion > FCP capabilities, so don't expect that.

Right now the best system I've found (and admittedly, I've never used Automatic Duck) is following the steps in this post.

The script, FCP2AE, takes the FCP XML file and then rebuilds your timeline in AE with all edits as new clips in timeline. The benefit is that it uses the same source videos as FCP (meaning you don't have to do any sort of exporting), and it leaves the full clip meaning you can adjust edits from within AE.

Once you're finished in AE, you just render out your timeline and take it back to FCP.

If you don't have to retain your edit information just export a high quality QT out of FCP, open it up in AE, do your work then export a high quality QT out of AE and bring it back into FCP.

We are doing a ton of AE work w/FCP right now that's our workflow. Lock the edit, export the sections that need FX work to AE, do the work, export a QT back out for FCP.
