Hi all;

I am a advanced user of premiere cs3 for a long and long time but i am planning to move from pc to aplle system. And this makes me stress like a hell. I will be changing my workflow what i am used to from the beginning.I've some questions to the advanced users of final cut and apple system.

1) Because of my low budget i am planning to buy mac book pro(i wish i could buy Mac Pro) what do you think the best config for P2HD editing for that.I saw a guy was editing smoothly with 3gb of ram and 2.8gHZ cpu??

2)I'll buy hole Final Cut studio 2 package, to be honest I want to make my mac book pro only 4 editing and work station.Do you think a nice configed mac book pro can handle this package successfully?Maybe with Shake aswell?

3)Do you think an advanced user of cs3 but totally new for hole apple logic; can get used to final cut?Do you think this is worth 4 this little revolution?

Apple is calling me in my dreams:))

Thanks in advanced..

Premiere and FCP are actually very similar, although I don't know first hand, my girlfriend uses FCP and landed a job using Premier. Apparently she figured it all out very fast. So I'm assuming it'll go well the other way too.

You will do fine with that set-up, it's the same my GF uses. I would recommend picking up the collection of Apple Certified books, they will flesh out and explain (nearly) every part of each program. They are very well put together books.

If you have any questions about Final Cut Studio, or want help with anything feel free to ask me.

Also I'm assuming you're new to Mac's altogether? (If I'm reading this right.) You can ask me about anything Mac/Apple related also. I'll help you get your Mac up to par easily.

You can easily edit p2/mxf/DVCProHD on a MacBook Pro with 4 megabytes of RAM and a solid FW800 7200 rpm HDD.

Also consider a duel adapter EC/34 to PC Cardbus adaper for ingesting.

Have you considered the idea of using Bootcamp? Have you considered going through Adobe and getting a "cross-grade"? I am currently using a MacBook Pro with 4GB Ram and using the entire FC Studio 2. I do not use Shake. The biggest thing I think you should consider is, do you want to use all or some of these Apps concurrently? If you do, go with the Mac Pro. You should also take a look at the graphics capabilities. AJA makes a cool box (IO HD that is getting some great reviews from people that are using it) if you go with the laptop solution. I have a Mac Pro Quad Core with 8gig of RAM as well as the laptop, and I use the laptop for everything while the Quad gets no love...I would blame this mostly on the portability.
Shake is a whole different animal when it comes to specific requirements. I would recommend getting onto an Apple forum to two about Shake and ask some folks about the issues when it comes to using Shake on a laptop. I am almost positive the app requires a 3 button mouse. There is a lot to consider, but don't let anyone talk you into anything less than a fully loaded MacBook Pro. The new graphics cards make a huge difference. (BTW, the 17" MacBook Pro is too big to be portable in my opinion, had a G4 and didn't like the size). Good Luck! P.S. I learned on Premiere before moving over to Final Cut. Easy transition....same with After Effects vs. Motion

Its very nice to see that there is still existing guys like youı in the world.Ithought no one cares at all.
I am happy about feedbacks because things will not be difficult as i thought , hope so.

Kabloded, there is few things i wanna ask to you,but i need to be sure about them as a rokie:)
Sevenonline,ı totally agree with you, since i am advance user of premier but not a genius,so i just want to use finalcut studio applications just for finishing a nice project.I am not a compositer or 3d artist,so maybe i will not need shake at all,3d in studio package maybe enough for me:)
I live in europe, but the prices in sates (bh)are killing me,you americans are soooo damn lucky that your county is cheap:)So i am planning to come NY city soon for a big deal from B&H.
Please tell me what you think about this package(link below),i think its enough 4 me with its matrox I/O card as well, may be few more ram.??

Kabloded I started to investigate about final cut pro a bit around web,and find also lots of people so sad that they are on final cut. Most reviews are about strange bugs which apple doesnt want to cover them, some exporting bugs on aspect ratio issiues, timelime bugs, timecodes, drops etc..Am ı going to have these things after ı transfer apple platform and final cut world.
I have friend here trying to convience me about a Sony Vaio labtop workstation and believe ı can kick any mac book pro with its performance:)

FCP is VERY similar to premiere, because adobe hired the FCP team to redesign premiere for them, thus the interface are extremely similar. premiere cs4 works on a mac btw, it's pretty wicked. although i'm a long time avid/fcp user.

to pc vs mac wars are kind of pointless, it's all about how you tool your system, and the quality of parts. macs suffer from same kinds of hardware failures as pc's, if anything it's more about the OS than anything else.

there isn't a piece of software out there without a bug or two, especially when it comes to something as intensive and complicated as a NLE. my opinion is stick to what you know best, and get the equipment you feel will be best for that.

Another members reviews about fcp, maybe ı should go on with premiere on macbookpro,FCP seems to need the fix troubles...

''We shot a short on the Canon XH A1, so HDV.
We were trying to edit on two systems (PC and Mac), but shortly became aware of all the inter-system-codec-troubles, so we finished the editing on Premiere.''

Given the number of seats held by FCP users, and the fact that people don't go on line and tell everyone that everything is fine, I don't think what you read at Ken's site or elsewhere is representative of how solid FCP is.

As "bugs" that "apple doesn't want to cover. . . . " the company updates FCP periodically to address issues. Many "bugs" are user based, so without knowing what issues you are referencing it's impossible to assist.

There is an issue on DVProHD exports. Funny, I don't have any and I've been doing for more than three years. And there is a simple solution to that as well if you do experience it.

If you are talking about "dropped frames," that usually is attributable to slower drives, the wrong type of drive, multiple firewire devices on a single FW bus, etc.

The point being that FCP continues to be one of the widest user bases out there.

And that there are issues with app just as there are issues with every app that requires hardware, cam HDD and OS multiple configurations.

Choose what you want, but believe for a second that any app on any platform doesn't have issues.

Well thats for sure,ı also have some problems time by time on cs3,who doesn't have.? Ok to be honest maybe i am scred for leaving what i used to and trying to get use to a new system from the beginning.Hope things will be smooth and easy 4 me:(
