Final Cut Server is OUT!

They did last year, and then didn't release it for a year. I had wondered what happened to it.

can someone explain to me what final cut server does. Is it just a file sharer?
Final Cut Server is a bit of a misnomer as products like Apple's xSan and those from Editshare can be used as a central file server. Final Cut Server is, basically, a way to better organize and share your media. Think of how you can use iTunes or iPhoto to organize your music & photos. Fundamentally FCS does the same thing but for your projects and project media. Instead of mucking around in Finder and coming up w/elaborate naming conventions to help keep stuff organized you access your media thru Final Cut Server and can "tag" it with detailed metadata for precise searching later on. That's just the tip of the iceberg though.

It's most powerful use is in a multi-user editorial environment. For the single user it's more on an organizational level.

Final Cut Server looks pretty good. I think it would be handy in most circumstances. But the multi user, large archive i think it would be invaluable..

Something else to think about (and this is WAY WAY cool)

http://gridironsoftware.com/Flow/

That to me is a life saver for so many reason's and i'll be getting it as soon as it comes out.

Flow looks VERY interesting (thanks for the link), but at $349/seat compared to FCS at $999 for 10 seats or $2K for unlimited seats, Flow could be a far more expensive solution unless they change their licensing scheme.
