final cut pro sudden errors

If everything is backed up then I guess it's time for a clean system install..

Cheers

Id advise you not to install Norton again. There really was no reason to have it running in the first place.

i downloaded final cut rescue. But it does nothing. is there something special i have to do. i pressed recover and then other option but nothing

FCP rescue will only work if you have already used it to back up a "good" set of preferences.
You will need to manually trash all your preferences. Then next time you launch FCP, set all your preferences to how you want, then hit back up on FCP rescue. Then if you ever need to trash prefs again you can use FCP rescue.

Did you get rid of norton from the system?

Use FCP Rescue to TRASH your prefs, not back them up, nor restore them. It does as good or better job than manually backing them up, as Apple has no file list published for 5.1 pref files to trash. And they are different than 4.5, rumored different than 5.1.

Run Disk Warrior, much easier than reinstalling the whole system. If the SYSTEM is bad, nothing will work. The Finder will glitch, most of your other apps will glitch. If not, reinstall Final Cut Suite from scratch. But only after running Disk Warrior.

And yes, trash all things NORTON on your system ASAP!!!!!!! It is evil, it is bad, it has not kept up with Apple's OS updates!

Booooo Norton! Yea BEER!

in response to trashing preferences using final cut rescue. How do you indicate to it to trash preferences? It gives you the option of trash restore and backup. It doesnt give you many options. What is the process of using this program?

Pretty obvious. When you need to trash, you click the Trash button. If FCP is running fine, you have lots of new Favorite motion and filter sets you've saved, you Back Up your preferences. When FCP messes up, you Trash your prefs, then Restore from the good back up set you saved. That way you don't loose all your Favs you've spend so much time designing and creating. It's pretty obvious.

And when trashing, it will trash all the nessisary files, you don't have to guess. Which is great with 5.0 and later, since Apple hasn't published the files lists for those versions.

Very simple, saves time, and is free. And much faster than doing these taskes manually.
