I know this a common problem.

After many sucessful imports from p2 files. All of a sudden i get the message ONE MORE P2 CLIPS FAILED TO IMPORT INCOMPLETE CORRUPT CLIPS.

The thing is that i never had this problem before. I tried importing files i have imported before and nothing. Will upgrading to FINAL CUT STUDIO pro 5.1 ressolve this issue?

this sucks

you should be in FCP 5.1 or later in the first place.

Not true!!!!!
I have been importing with FCP 5.0.4 for the last two months without a problem.

I agree just yesteday it was working fine on 5.04 and now its crap. All i did was run norton to clean up my computer. Could that have done something?

I deleted and re installed final cut but still no luck. 5.1 is my last option after that i dont know what the hell is wrong with this thing. I know its not the files or anything because like i said just yesterday i was working with them fine.

You just said it... Norton trashes FCP. If you are running Norton anti-virus, totally delete it from your system. I dare say that Norton also messed up your OS.

DAMN your right nsoltz. I just googled the problem. And it says that NORTON interferes with FINAL CUT. So now my question is what do i do? The damage is done, do i have to get a fresh copy of FINAL CUT PRO?

Don't you have a fresh copy? Definitely upgrade to 5.1 so you can grab 5.1.2. The improved handling of P2 media will make life easier for you. :)

I dont have a fresh copy of FINAL CUT. I will have to get someone to get a copy for me. Now my question is this, will FCP 5.1 or later save me from this import problem? I am running on OS X 10.3 using panther. Considering that my panther is screwed and the newer final cut pro only works on jaguar. Will getting jaguar and the newer final cut solve my problem?

When you write "jaguar" I assume you meant Tiger. Which version of Panther are you using? I don't know if upgrading to Tiger will solve your problem, but it couldn't hurt. It's already not working due to Norton. Did you try the fix for the Norton problem by turning the app off? I would even try re-installing FCP first.

I've heard that NAV has had an overall pooch screw to the OS.

I hate to ask this, but are you using a legit copy of FCP? This sounds a little fishy to me. Current version of OS is 10.4.8 and current version of FCP is 5.1.2

Ok if you want to fix this problem without having to wait for the crossgrade of FCP and spending money right now on the latest O.S. here's what you need to do. Delete Norton Anti Virus off your system. Re-install your 10.3.9 O.S. Re-install your FCP 5.0.4. Then you should be good to go. If you dont own the install disc for either of these then you are pretty much screwed.

Here is a quote from the Late Breaking News about FCP 5.1.2 specifically:

information, see the Panasonic P2 chapter in the HD and Broadcast Formats document, available from the Final Cut Pro Help menu.

Is there an app out tyhere calloed FCP Fix or something similar... will have a quick search for you...

i downloaded final cut rescue. But it does nothing. is there something special i have to do. i pressed recover and then other option but nothing

Almost sounds like your user prefs have become corrupted... can you create a new user and see if things work as that user...

Cheers

i thing the whole system is corrupted.

So after I ran Norton I tried to use final cut pro. The P2 footage i had been working with no longer worked. And of course it would no longer allow me to import p2 files into final cut.

I am assuming my p2 files are fine. Since they had worked before. And i have them backed up.
