I can't speak on that report but maybe you should try trashing your preferences and repairing hd permissions.

Are you running this version of Final Cut Pro on an Intel Mac?

If so, and this appears to be FCP 5.0, it isn't compatible with Intel Macs.

Let us know.

i had an almost identical issue happen with my g 5 power mac

It really freaked me out.

I purchased a new Mac pro. 2 days later -Which took a month to arrive - in the meantime i reset the pram (see the manual) - disconnected all external hard drives ,ran disc utility through everything and the problem seemed to fix itself. reset / fix all permissions.

part of the problem MAY have been the fact that you have to do hard shutdowns when this happens - which may exaggerate the problem - as the os doesnt like just being switched off.

good luck with the problem - and dont panic.

I experienced a similar situation a few months ago, and it seemed to be related to not having my hard drives properly on and spun up before starting the application. My way out was to change my scratch disks (!) to only ones on the computer itself, and then start the program, with the external drives off, and then change them back again and reboot the computer with the ext. drives fully up and operational before pushing the power button on the MP. It may have been related to a bus problem, meaning that the program may have had some difficulty with the firewire bus. It does mention 'sigbus' which was also in my error report. I have no idea why any of this happened, and it hasn't happened again, but believe me, I make sure the drives are fully up and on before starting FCP. I don't start it on startup, for instance.

Also, it looks like you are using an older verion of FCP with the latest security upgrade. I would go on Apple's boards and make sure that Apple says that FCP 5 is compatable with 10.5.8. As mentioned by David, it may not be compatable with Intel Macs. When a manufacturer says, "incompatable" this means many possible things, including random events with no warning. But it also may mean that Apple is no longer testing (or fixing problems) FCP 5 against new updates to the OS. The testing process takes an enormous amount of effort for Apple (or any OS vendor), especially rapid security updates that may stop known attack surfaces of the OS! These updates often are done within only a few days or a week at most. Time is always of the essence.

So try some of these ideas if you haven't already.

- First cycle your system, turning all your drives off, and your computer, then on again, then turn on your computer. If it doesn't work once, turn everything off and go have coffee and come back, and try it again. Always boot external drives first and let them get up to speed. If you need to disconnect FW drives, I always do it with the box OFF, for safety sake.
- Consider my solution, of repointing scratch drives, if only for the ability to turn things on and off. (what do others think of this suggestion?)
- Back out the security update, at your peril (I would stop using this machine for banking or stock selling for example).
- or ....Upgrade FCP to a version that claims to support Intel Macs.

Hope this helps! It's VERY frustrating, I know!

PS. I think in the future you only need to report the upper part of the error message, down to the part where it starts talking about "THREAD X Crashing". The upper part of Apple's error messages seem to be showing OS level stuff, and the rest seems to be stuff that the application developers would be interested in. Most of us here never see that code (G). Maybe none of us...

The OP running Version: 5.0 (5.0) of FCP. This is a five year old PPC version of FCP.

Note that the log states:

"Translated Code Information:
Rosetta Version: 21.03"

This seems to be evidence that the OP is using a Intel Mac with a PPC version of FCP.

He hasn't responded, but that it the likely issue if this is an Intel Mac.
