Apple is making a big thing out of the new AVCintra codec and FCP7, but my question was more about DVCPRO-HD, HVX-200 and HPX-170.
Will the upgrade from FCP6 to the hot version 7 improve the workflow in any way.

I'm not talking about the way of editing, but more about managing the files.

Right now I'm using the P2CMS application to manage my files, then I select my clips within this program and create a linked file to import to FCP who is copying the file anyway. (I know it is quite blurry sorry)

I heard about a new Metadata management in FCP 7, meaning : will the metadata I write in P2CMS be visible in the Log and transfer window ?

- Is this upgrade so ultra cool that I should run to the store and buy it, or the workflow is still the same then I could wait a bit to switch.

- I'm at the beginning of a new shooting starting august 24, Should I upgrade before or after ?

None of the cameras you listed shoot AVC-Intra, so I doubt there's anything new there that would give you much of a workflow benefit.

AVC-Intra support is for cameras like the HPX300, HPX2000/3000, and HPX2700/3700.

I update mid project and just save the new file with "- FCP7 at the end" ... you can always revert back if their's a problem. I would just be careful if you have a close deadline.

As far as updating or not, I couldn't be more disappointed after 2 years. There's a few nice features - look at the "what's new" list. If that doesn't have something you really find a "must-have" I would just wait... no changes to the HVX-200 workflow really.

Thank you Filmguy123.
I guess I will wait, The only interestng thing is the enhenced slow mo ...

Also there are some auto ingest and auto naming features in the Log and Transfer window. These are not P2-specific but they greatly speed up and automate all forms of bringing footage into FCP. As in, mount a P2 card, automatically log and transfer all footage unattended with user-definable renaming of clips according to a variety of customizable fields. That's nice. :)
