Final Cut Pro 6.0.4 and Canon HF100

Here is the dilemma. I bought this little Canon HF 100 to shoot home videos. I am a professional Cinematographer. It is a good little camera, but I am having a nightmare of a time importing my footage into FCP. Can anyone tell me why my FCP 6.0.4 on a MacPro Tower running Leopard crashes everytime I try to Log and transfer the footage?
The L and T window starts spinning up and then loads the footage. Once you try and select the clips to digitize them the program freaks out.

I have the camera hooked up through a USB 2 plug into the front bus of the Mac Pro tower. This has to be one the all time worse compatibility issues I have seen. Any advice is appreciated.

Try one of the back USB plugs.

I'm not certain but it may be that the front ones are USB1.

A workaround is using Toast 9. The MTS files should easily and quickly convert to the codec you want.

I plugged it into my USB hub and it worked. Not sure why a $3000 MacPro can't handle USB 2.0 on the front, but thanks. It was late and I was frustrated. Appreciate the help.

Remember that AVCHD is relatively new, and there will be issues as new cams with different implementation of AVCHD appear.

Easiest way (for me): with a cardreader, copy the entire BDMV folder from the HF100 to your hard disk. Don't rename it! Create a new folder as you wish and put the BDMV folder into. In FCP L&T window, just drag the folder you create to the upper box. You must have FCP 6.0.5 or latest. Cheers
