Final Cut Pro 4 better than Vegas?

I've been given 2 Macs, very decent ones, to edit with...I wanted to edit with FCP4 which I have.

I also hear about Vegas. I have 2 PC's and am friends with multiple programmers and technicians, who will build me an amazing computer for free...

In Vegas, I recently learned I could convert to wide screen and keep roughly 90% of the quality...FCP4 must be better...

If you get a chance, for you die hard FCP4 fans, post a quick "why FCP4 is better" comment or "whats great about FCP4"...

actually...I want to use FCP4...just remind me why :)

Thanks!!!

It's not really better than any other editor. But if it makes you feel better, then grab FCP and edit away! ;D

fact 1: You won't find many professional post houses bragging to clients "we've got 12 seats of VEGAS in here we cut all our projects on!!!" You're more likely to hear FCP or Avid...

Granted that's the superficial reason to use FCP, but hey, it's a reason! :)

these are ugly kinda posts.. but I am pretty safe to say that on the apple FCP is the best, and on the PC Vegas is the best. Avid is nice but seems to be missing the mark in the recent releases.. and Vegas just keeps getting stronger. IT will be interesting to see how much money Sony puts into the 5 release now that they own the title.

One reason you may want to choose one specific editor over another is if you intend to go get a job for a post house. If you know that most post houses use Avid, and your goal is to get employment as an editor, well, you'd better know Avid. Most places that I've seen sport Avid and frequently have an FCP suite as well. I don't think I've seen a post house that offers Vegas (although that's what I use and I think it's easily competitive with the others). I've never seen a post house brag about offering Premiere either, but I'd wager there are a hundred desktops using Premiere for every one that uses Avid, and probably 500 Premiere desktops for every FCP installation.

If you're doing your own editing for your own purposes, choose whichever tool you like and whichever one lets you get the job done. If you're on a Mac, your choices are basically FCP or Avid. If you're on the PC, it's pretty much Avid, Vegas, or (if you must) Premiere. There are other editors out there, like Pinnacle and In-Sync and VT[3] as well.
