Final Cut inserting random frames? How do I correct?

I am using the latest version of Final Cut and have tried on two different computers with the same results.

I have one video layered on top of another. Right at the point when the top video ends and the bottom video continues Final Cut is adding a random frame from earlier in the sequence. When I go through the footage frame by frame it is not there. It only shows up when played or rendered out. This happens multiple times throughout my sequence at the point when the top video ends while continuing to the bottom video.

I have tried deleting my render files and re-rendering but it does not correct the problem. How can I fix this? This is the first time I have ever had this problem show up on any of my projects.

Thanks for any help.

What sequence settings and what video codec from what camcorder?

How ingested? Log and transfer or something else?

What exact version of FCP using what computer and what dedicated scratch disc?

i have the same thing happen when making transitions like cross fade..random frames only on played video not there when scrubbed..all the same source video 720 24p dvcpro

If you are rendering as an interlaced project, you will often see bits and pieces of frames that you didn't see in your 24p or 30p timeline. This is because the rendering is pulling scanning info from your original source, not your timeline. Try rendering in 24p or 30p, not an interlaced mode.

I got some advice that worked for me. If any of you are having similar problems here is what I did.

Simply create a new sequence and copy your entire edit and paste it into that new sequence. That did the trick for me. Fooling with the files and re-rendering in the same sequence did not fix anything, it just moved the problems around. Pasting in a new sequence cleaned up every problem I had.
