final cut express problems... i think...

i will start by saying this: post-production has never really been my field. recently, however, i have been putting together some footage shot in the standard 24p setting on the DVX, but unfortunately the only software at my disposal right now is the ancient Final Cut Express 1.0. yes, thats right, the very first release of FCE. i know, stop laughing. anyway, the footage looks good... but some diagonal lines have some pretty severe jagged lines. I'm going to assume that this is the result of the timeline being a 29.97fps timeline, rather than a 24p timeline (which cant be changed in FCE1.0).

my question is this: if I upgrade to the newest Final Cut Pro, will I be able to fix this jagged line problem? if so, how? and will doing so negatively affect playback on a regular TV?

First you can edit 24p (f5) in 29.97 fine since that's what's coming from the camera.
Second, the frame rate will not create jagged lines.

Check your sequence size to make sure it matches your clips. Check the quality settings.
Does it match the original footage?
You're dealing with DV footage here so diagonal lines will not be totally smooth.
Output to video monitor or go to DVD and check it on video. What you see on the computer appears worse than it is on tv.
FCP probably won't help your problem.
