I was told today that I can not edit anything I shoot on my new DVX 100B becouse I am only running Final cut Express HD? is there truth to this?
he said you can edit but you are not getting true 24p

You can edit 24p, but NOT 24PA.

You need Final Cut Pro, because it can understand the pulldown on 24PA.

How would one go about delivering when editing in FCE? DVDStudio Pro isn't included so does that mean no compression? How is iDVD? Also, I see from the link above (:dankk2:) that there's no TC display. Does that make things really difficult? I'm a shooter, not really an editor, and I'm about to buy a laptop. I'm hoping FCE will be a good way for me to do some basic editing, camera tests and get a reel together, and learn how to work with Color Correction a little bit. What do you guys think? There's a $300 discount when you buy 5.1 with a new Mac, which is tempting but bumps the price of the whole rig a tad too high.

EDIT: How easy is it to take what I've cut in FCE and dump it into FCP?
EDIT Again: One more, how much does the fact that FCE isn't Universal yet affect the program?

You can edit 24pA on in a 29.97 timeline. But because of the way the frames are split into fields in advanced pulldown, you may see some slight motion stutter issues.

I have been using FCE for a few years now and have had great luck with it. I edited my Documentary on it also a few short films and music video, but now that i have the DVX i belive i am going to bump up to Final cut Pro. as far as going from FCE to FCP it is simple to move your projects, also IDVD does work very well and easy to use. I have bounced the same project from FCE to Imovie and back again with no problems. what laptop are you going to buy? I at the moment would go with the G4 and pump it up with ram. Not sure if the new books work with the programs as well. I am running a G5 power mac dual 2 with 3 gigs memory and 250 hd with external 250 and 17 inch display and LOVE IT
