I have a client who has FCE and we shot DVCPro 50 on P2 cards. He obviously can't see the mxf files but if I do a log and transfer in FCP and give hime the QT's will that work?

FCE is limited to DV, HDV and some AVCHD.

Downloading the free P2CMS will allow him to view the native files, but editing without FCP I am not sure.

no, b/c those QTs must be transcoded first. You can't just take the MXF wrapper off and give them to him... FCE won't be able to decode them.

You need the DVCProHD codecs.

Even if you have them, you can't set up FCE to edit native DVCProHD.
