Final Cut Capture Settings for HVX

I'm hoping to capture HVX footage (720p) directly over firewire into my 15" laptop using FCP 5.0.4. The hope is to avoid P2 entirely.

I'm getting constant crashes (and only two short successfully captured clips).

Can someone guide me through the appropriate settings on both the camera and the Log and Capture tool in FCP that have yielded successful results?

e.g.,
What capture template?
Which Device control setting?
Which flavor of 720p in the camera?

I would guess that several combinations of settings could work, but none have worked consistently here at all. Thanks.

whatever format 24, 30 04 60
Make sure 1394 device is selected in the HVX other functions (I think?) menu

Set up Final Cut settings the same as camera

In log and capture have non-controllable device selected.

I would advise a separate project so that all sequence settings are also the same.

Might want to have HVX setup first and firewire connected before turning on FCP so that it sees the camera.

Try that & call back if still problems.
 
Also turn off airport , sharing and a bunch pof other stuff. There is a list that Robert Lane put out somewher on this site.
