Final Cut 7 Problem.

So, I just got an Imac a few weeks ago. I also purchased Final Cut Studio (The New one with final cut pro 7). I have been using a Mac formatted WD 1 TB Hard drive to put footage on and I had planned to edit from it (via firewire800) and all of a sudden I went to open final cut and It wont open as long as the hard drive is connected. All of the other programs open fine. When I eject the hard drive it opens. Any ideas? I can still access the hard drive and all of the files on it just fine. I cant reformat the drive because It holds over 400 GB of footage for a project. I set all of the scratch disks and everything for the project on the hard drive. Any ideas? Is there something Im missing? Im new to apple.

Quick questions:

which WD 1 TB drive? Is it a MyBook? Is it an internally RAID two 500 GB arrangement?

And does it have a USB connection? Have you tried that to see if it works?

The hard Drive I have is...

WD My Book
Studio Edition
External 1 TB

I use the Firewire 800. I havent tried USB 2.0 because I dont think that the transfer rate would be quick enough to edit 1080.

Any ideas?

I'm asking you to attach the drive via USB to see if FCP 7 hangs or crashes.

In that manner we can eliminate one issue.

Also, doesn't that drive have a FW400 port? Have you tried that?

I havent tried that yet but.....I did change to scratch disks to the imac hard drive then turned the WD External on an I can open final cut with the hard drive plugged in. But it seems like when I have the scratch disks set to the exernal hard drive it wont open final cut when its plugged n When I unplug it and open final cut it asks me to reset the scratch disks so I do to the IMac hard drive and it works again. Strange

So.... keep the scratch disk on the iMac drive. It's faster than the WD and I'm sure since the iMac is new, you have plenty of space to work with.
