A white pro-mist will look very different from a black frost filter. You should consider comparing similar types of filters, i.e. a black pro-mist to a black frost. If you order the DVXUSER.COM Filter DVD, you'll be able to see the actual effect of dozens of filters and how they actually look on a DVX camera.
For those who will answer AVR's question further, I think by "degraded" what is meant is a graduated ND. I'm partial to Schneider, B&W, and Heliopan. Tiffen's okay.
