Hey guys. HPX170 shipped today. I just need to get some accessories for it. Does anyone have any links for good places to purchase filters? Any suggestions for name brands, etc.?

I need to get a polarizer, haze/uv, etc. Any suggestions for kits? Should I be weary of buying p2 cards off of ebay?

Does anyone else have any other suggestions for other accessories to go with the hpx170. This is my first panasonic camera and i'm pumped.

Thanks guys.

How about good batteries? I figured there are generic brand batteries that would do the job. Does anyone have experience with these?

Also, does just any 72 mm filter work on the hpx? This is my first high def camera so i'm learning the ropes.

Thanks!

Yeah, same question here, I would like to know if the B+W filters I had on my DVX would work on the HPX... they are the same size (72mm)...

Yes your 72mm filters will work. For aftermarket batteries, DVXUser sells batteries that work great and sales proceeds help to support this site. Click on the banner at the very bottom of the page to go to the order page.

Barry, are the HVX200/HPX170 batteries the same? I noticed on B&H that the HPX comes with a 5400mah battery. Is that anywhere close to lasting as long as the DVXuser 5600mah battery?

The $25 Ebay batteries work just fine. The fit may be slightly looser but the connection won't be lost. A year or two down the road, you will find your original Panasonic battery lasts maybe an hour longer than the generic. You have to decide if the much lower price is worth the tradeoff. To me, it was, I bought several instead of one $150 Panny.I don't have a DVXuser battery , but if it'sanywhere near the quality of the Panasonic, it's a real bargain.

Any name brand 72mm filter should be fine, just don't get the cheapo no name ones, not the place to economize.

I saw a couple comments on here one time about rain covers that fit the hpx170 but can't find itnow. What rain cover fits? How about underwater housings/bags? thanks!

My filters are for my DVX, and I don't know about all this HD filter/SD filter stuff.

Do I need to get separate filters for the HD to fully take advantage of the format? If so, anyone have a polarizer/UV/other filter package they'd recommend?

Do I need to get separate filters for the HD to fully take advantage of the format?

I've read that you do, but then again I've used a cheapo $30 Tiffen UV filter on my HVX for three years and never noticed a difference between when it's on and when it isn't. Guess it all depends on how picky you are and how good are your eyes...

I notice that some filter brands, such as Schneider, sell two types of 72mm UV filters. One is more expensive and is called the slim-line version with "Thin construction and glass to prevent vignetting with today's larger wide angle lenses".

Has anyone had any vignetting problems with a regular Tiffen or other brand UV filter for the HPX170?
