Filters for HPX camera... not cavision

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for 4x4 glass filters for my HPX3000 and HPX500. I have used the cavision 4x4 filters and they really make the image go soft. I guess they just aren't optically correct.

Can anyone recommend good glass? I'm thinking of getting some 'Formatt' glass filters.

Thanks!

are they better than the tiffen or formatt filters? Or just better value for money? Will they work well for the HPX3000 too (as it's so sharp and less forgiving than the 500)?

DO NOT buy Formatt filters. I say his because they come mounted in a slick little black frame which makes them very prone to falling out of Chrosziel filter trays.

I"ve got the Red Rock filters and find they work well, especially for the price. I've used them with both the HPX and HVX and noticed a dramatic improvement in contrast and color. Looking forwad to trying some other brands, but for a starter kit I don't see how you can go wrong.

I'm currently using Tiffen and I'm pleased with both physical and image quality.

Among users there tend to be that Tiffen and Schneider are the only real option when it comes to durability and image quality.

the proof is in the pudding. go to just about any rental house and it's tiffen and schneider and that's it.

I use Schneider for polarizer and Tiffen for things like SoftFX and ProMist...

Schneider glass is reputed to be better than Tiffen, but I've used Tiffen for many years and trust them (plus in that time I've accumulated over 40 in 4x4 and Panavision sizes). There is a thread here somewhere about color shift using NDs and polarizers with this camera, so check that too.
