Filter question.

I'm new to the game and trying to catch up. A couple of questions. When would you use a low contrast filter vs. a diffusion filter? Also, what's the best way to shoot under bright sunlight? I'm talking august desert sunlight. Oh, and will someone please argue why I should get the HV instead of the DVX100b? Three extra grand I might be able to swing but I'd rather not. Thanks.

Under bright sunlight use an ND filter, plus whatever you need from your in-camera ND's to get good lighting. Shoot with the sun over head or behind u, use bounce boards to get more balanced lighting on your subjects face, but this comes down to what u want. If there is going to be a lot of glare, use a polarizer too. Umm, thats all i got.
