Filter query (in conjunction with c.m/b)

I've purchased a cinetactics matte blox not so long ago and I was looking for the opinion from anyone who has one. I was planning on getting a Tiffen 4x4" Warm Polarizer Glass Filter in conjunction with my matte blox but I wanted to be certain that there wasn't any hitches...

In the review it stated that there were some quirks with filters, but from what I've gathered, that is only with screw-on's? Will the tiffen 4x4 be fine and held tightly without any quirks?

Thanks in advance,

i use 4x4s in mine, and its a tight squeez to get it in there, but you need to get it in good and far so that you avoid vignetting. i can pretty much shoot at ful wide withough vignetting now though. works great.

Excellent, that's all I needed to hear. Thanks buddy. :)

One *huge* quirk--you can't rotate the polarizer! Unless you count 90 degrees at a time as useful--and I don't.

Re: Filter query (in conjunction with c.m/b)

..actually i rotate my polarizer in it all the time. theres no rule that says your mate box needs to be sitting on the adaptor ring at a straight and level  angle with the camera. i just slide the mattebox around the adaptor ring till the polarizer sits at the angle i want. of course the most you would ever angle it is 45 degrees, cause you can just turn the  filter in 90 degree increments. but anyway as along as the big hood is shading the sun, i dont mind the box being crooked at all.  but for the most part i shoot at angles which requir the mattbox and filter to be at a near straight 90degrees anyway.. usually the bst lighting is somewhere very close to that.

heres the cinetactics page where you can see an example under "advanced mounting"

http://www.cinetactics.com/mb100m-images.php

the only reallissue is you need to velco the large flag on in some way to keep out glare somtimes, but usually its not a problem.

and of course the chance of vignetting from the corners being in the pic(which is pretty much true anytime you rotate a polarizer in any about mattebox really)

Re: Filter query (in conjunction with c.m/b)

cant you have a screw on polarizer on the 72-72 adapterring of the matteblox? is there a bad amount of vignetting then?

Re: Filter query (in conjunction with c.m/b)

pends how thick the filter ring is.. i use a UV filter and the cinetactics adaptor mount ring together with absolutely no vignetting at all at full wide. so i would assum if i replaced the uve filter with a polarizer it would be fine.. but it could be a pain to rotate screw in filters.. espescially whe the box is mounted off them.

Re: Filter query (in conjunction with c.m/b)

Yeah, it's the vignetting I'd worry about and the inconvenience when you have the oversize french flag mounted. And how do you use ND Grads?

Re: Filter query (in conjunction with c.m/b)

yeah.. you just swivel the whole damn thing, mattebox and all, to get that effect. That is the only real way to use grads and polarizers, with it and it works fine. even if you put a polarizer on before the box (screwin) the whole thing will move when you rotate it anyways.
