Filter for noise removal from Red Giant

Thought you guys would be interested in this, for all our low light banding noise issues. It's a filter from Red Giant and comes as part of the magic bullet suite. It's called DeNoiser and the link is here.

I downloaded the plugin and it seems to work really very well. It seems it has been designed with DSLR's particularly in mind, as there is mention of the 7D in the tutorial. It is an intelligent noise removal filter and deals with compression artefacts as well. My only complaint is that it's pretty slow in After Effects. Didn't try it in FCP but I imagine it would be similar. Trouble is I have a very fast machine so it means it's really slow on lower spec hardware. But to save a shot it could be really worthwhile.

The only example that shows off texture (the guitar player) really looks washed out compared to what you can do with NeatVideo.

It's hard to tell from the video but I have had success with the demo. Although it doesn't do banding. It actually adds to it. To combat this I use my old trick of adding noise which always works well.

I'll check out Neat Video. Hope there's a mac version.

Hey guys. Wow!!

I just tried the demo of Neat Video and it's incredible. So much faster than Denoiser and I think probably more powerful. Thanks for that tip.

I had a job recently which meant shooting in almost non-existent light in an apt. lit by a single flourescent lit fixture mounted to a wall. I didn't bring any lighting with me so I had to set my GF13 to ISO800 and deal with it in post. The footage was just unusably bad, awful noise everywhere and I mean everywhere. But the video was very important in terms of getting a special needs child some help, so I tried to fix it with noise reduction.

Now, I am a cheap bastard. I spent hours on this trying every freeware NR plugin I could google. Nothing I tried had an overall positive effect -- they all mucked up the image too much to care whether the sparklies were less noticeable. But this kid needed this video to look acceptable and there was no way to reshoot it given the deadline. So I bit the bullet and at 2am the day before deadline paid $99 for NeatVideo for FCP.

When I say this plugin literally saved my ass, I'm not overstating it. I still can't believe what NeatVideo can do, especially compared to other NR plugins. Clearly, these guys know something the others don't. Try the demo on your noisiest reject footage and see if you're not stunned.

Now I'm going back and cleaning up all the crappy miniDV cam videos I took of the kids when they were little and Dad didn't know any better. $99 for a plugin seems steep but I'm a believer.

Another vote here for NeatVideo. Have been using it regularly for two years through AE on the mac. AMAZING plugin. Back before I got it I tried Magic Bullet Steady (which is Red Giant's previous plugin for noise removal) and it's results really weren't very good- basically, it just seemed like it was blurring the footage. Hopefully their new program will be a step up from MB Steady. (NOTE: I'm definitely not bashing RedGiant. I use MB Colorista in a production environment daily. Couldn't live without it!) But yeah, for noise reduction, there's no beating NeatVideo at this point. Will download the demo for MB Denoiser and report back if it compares with, or is better than NeatVideo.

+10 for Neat Video Pro

TMPGenc has a really good noise removal tool included which has many adjustments. Almost as good as Neat video, but heaps quicker to process.
