Filter and lens cleaners

I recently purchased a UV filter for my new DVX100, however I noticed that already it has picked up particles.  I bought a cloth that was supposed to eliminate this by wiping it down but it doesn't work.  I can see these particles in scenes that I am shooting for rehearsal.  Can anyone on here recommend a good and safe cleaner for this filter.  Also can the lens be cleaned or should that be professionaly done.  Also when you screw a filter on in front of the lens, can you still use the lens cap or will it damage the filter. Any and all help will be appreciated.

what are you focusing on that is so close that the dust on the lense elements comes into focus and is visible?

Re: Filter and lens cleaners

Everything I focus on shows it. Inside you can't see it too much, but outside it is very clear. I have heard about cleaning pens for the lens and filters but I don't know which ones are the best.

Re: Filter and lens cleaners

Try a can of compressed air to blow off the dust. If that doesn't work, lens cleaner and a micro fiber cloth or a lens chamois. Any camera store or eyeglass shop should have micro fiber cloths.

Outside and they won't wipe off? Okay, I don't want to insult your intelligence, but these are actually dust particles right... not the microscopic littlespots that light refraction can cause outside? If you're not sure, use a french flag and see if they are still there?

Re: Filter and lens cleaners

Great point -- tiny flares can look quite a bit like dust spots, so flag the lens to make sure it's completely shaded and see if that makes them go away. You should only be able to see dust spots if you're at 100% wide angle and focused very close (like MF10 or so).
