Filmtools 3025 Gripper

I've been looking at those also. No experience with one and all the images are showing small little camcorders, but it says it can handle 22 lbs. I'm curious to follow this thread to see what others have to say, because I would be concerned about the strength of the joints on the articulating arms with a heavier cam like the DVX. It does look cool...but does it really work!

Yes I have used them.... They are good they do the job and hold very well. I would of course recommend still using some kind of straps just in case!

It's a Woods cup. They're commonly used for rigging all over cars for camera and electrics.

For a larger 1/3 camera like the DVX, you should definitely use straps and consider a 2nd separate cup fitted with the baby spud and 20" grip arm to grab the camera's top handle. The camera sits pretty high up on that Woods / Bogen set-up and you'll see a great deal of vibration translate to a top-heavy object like your DVX. The grip arm will greatly reduce that.

This is more like what your eventual set-up should look like: http://www.filmtools.com/filmtools-gripper-116xl-support-kit.html
