Films you heard were bad turned out to be good

Stone's 'Alexander' (costume, photography and approach to mass battle scenes especially) and Ang Lee's 'Hulk' (for the editing in particular).

There is a relatively obscure Zach Braff comedy called "The Ex" with Jason Bateman that was mostly crapped on by everyone; I remember thinking it was totes hilares.

Haha! Loved "Lair of the White Worm" when i was younger, i had a thing for Amanda Donohoe

Well, if we are going to resurrect Ken Russell films... I liked "Gothic"(1986), "Solome's Last Dance"(1988)... on the other hand I hated "The Boyfriend"(1976), even if Twiggy grew boobs... and both D. H. Lawrence adaptations, "Women in Love'(1969), probably his most famous... and "The Rainbow"(1989)... oh, wait this thread is about films that one heard were bad... but turned out good...

Recently, Terminator Genesys. Everyone moaned about how awful it was. It isn't great, but it's certainly the best non-Cameron Terminator, and the first 45 minutes were a lot of fun. The rest was so-so.

Dark Water (2005)

Great production design, score, a prolific supporting cast, and I cared about the characters. I skipped this when it came out ten years ago but caught it on TV in my hotel room while I was trying to fall asleep last night (a common situation for me, but possibly the first time it has ever gone so well).

Sorry, but I didn't think it was possible to make a boring Terminator movie until I saw Terminator: Genesys.
