Films I watched this weekend

J.R. Hudson

Spirit Animal
I watched 3 films on DVD this weekend:

LOST IN TRANSLATION

I loved it. Very touching and sweet. A real connection. Everything the critics said it was. Wow. Murray was awesome! Highly reccomend this flick. Loved that they connected but never, er consumated? Shows how to tell a story.

MIRACLE

Sigh... The miracle on ice. I remember being 10 years old when this went down. Good film, harmless sports fun. Russel is such an underated actor. I liked it and I like sports so it was good to watch.

PAYCHECK

Crap! Crap Crap! I turned it off with about 20 minutes to go. So lame. Just more proff that John Woo sucks as a director. Affleck cant act his way out of a bag and Uma is just doing I think what the title implies (collecting a paycheck?); her spin in this is so unmotivated which is contrasting of her recent work with Tarantino. Just a horrible film and not plausible at all. What a waste of 2 hoours.

Re: Films I watched this weekend

Cool man, Lost in Translation was excellent! such a good movie! I was disapointed when they didnt give Murray the academy award.

Re: Films I watched this weekend

i can totally agree with not only the film being nominated for BEST PICTURe but Murrays performance is outstanding. Such a REAL movie. Felt like you were there and so intimate.

Loved it.

Re: Films I watched this weekend

This is perfect, John can be a weekly rental guide, save us all from getting stuck watching worthless films.

I know Paycheck sucks ass, I unfortunately sat through it at a theatre(a friend was acting in it- my motivation to see it, ended up he never made the final cut). Curious if you watched the extras, if so are there any good Making Of's or featurettes that teach anything plausible about filming?

I always try and give the DVD review! :D

Perhaps I ll take a look at SFeatures. But man, that movie was just so bad.

Re: Films I watched this weekend

Lost in Translation was cool, but NOT everything it was hyped as by the critics IMHO.

Probably the best flick from Sophia Coppola tho. Still, she has yet to prove herself as much more that her father's daughter IMHO :(

Re: Films I watched this weekend

I personally love everything about Lost in Translation. I even love her directorial debut "The Virgin Sucide".

I'm really glad you felt this way. I'm with you all the way j-man. A lot of people I talked to bashed bill murrays performance... I thought he was spectacular, along with the rest of the movie. Hooray!

Re: Films I watched this weekend

Fools. They bash cause its against the grain to bash. Some people try to hard I suppose.

Re: Films I watched this weekend

This weekend I saw:

The Stepford Wives, the original, not the remake.
Foxy Brown
Gothika
The Terminal
Paycheck
House of Sand and Fog

I almost saw Lawrence of Arabia, but it was a 35mm print, and I'm holding out for 70mm. I've seen the film on DVD loads of times, but never on the big screen.

Re: Films I watched this weekend

i got to see LOA at the cinerama dome in hollywood at 70mm. pretty amazing, that was the first time i saw it as well so it was a real treat. the only thing that kinda sucked was the curved screen the dome has, depending on where your sitting all the shots look to have distortion.

yeah, it really pisses me off how much people bash, do u guys ever go to any fan sites like aint it cool news or anything? everytime a new film comes out or is even said to be starting up, every post on the boards there is negative. so annoying!

Re: Films I watched this weekend

Re: Films I watched this weekend

i think sofia is kinda hot...

not girls with power tools hot, but kinda hot...

Re: Films I watched this weekend

Sofia is kinda hot. In that Itailan chick filmmaking kind of way.

Kids today are all angst'd out over nothing. Too much MTV and Videogames and not enough outside experience. Too much real world, too much cribs, too much VH1 crap.

These kids are overweight like no generation before. These kids gotta get out and live life more; put down the Playstation and turn off the box.

Re: Films I watched this weekend

Careful Hudson, Too many "These kids today..." statements and the next thing you know...you're old! :)

Re: Films I watched this weekend

I know...

I am. 34. (Sound of crying and whimpering)

Of course Im generalizing and meant no one in particular.

Re: Films I watched this weekend

"Beyond Borders." Watched it this weekend.

It had no plot. Really, it seemed like they were doing their damnedest simply to tour the most wretched places on Earth as if to say "SEE? THIS IS REALLY BAD!" More or less a recruiting piece for NGOs and UN agencies.
