I am brand new at this and have searched for an answer.

I am waitng for my dvx100b to arrive. in the mean time I was experimenting with a short which had a HDTV CTR tv for the main background. I got a split horizontally across the screen. the top half looked like it had a green filter over it. It was a perfect line across.

How do you shoot the tv without this effect?

You can use 'syncro shutter'(1/60.3 and can be set to different values depending on the shutter speed you want to use) to prevent flicker effect while shooting monitors.
I am not sure that green color you are talking about though...

what u can do is film the tv off. then composite a shot of whatever u want and fram it on top of the screen in post. It will look as if the tv is on. You can distort the footage in the tv alittle to give it a real look. Try it and see.

If the shot is locked on a tripod, use vortex's method. If it's handheld, do what volcano says. :)

I had NO flicker. Just this split screen look. I wanted use the background screen to have anamated graphic images on it like many news programs.

I will continue to experiment.

thanks
