Hiy
I'll be filming with HVX200 in a niteclub with UV lighting and lots of UV painted props and UV paint on set and UV body paint on dancers.
Anyone here ever film in similar UV light scenario? Any tips please?
eye and camera don't see UV. So if you see something, it is a blue cast.
The other effects are UV transformed to visible light by some pigments.
Usually this happens in very dark rooms so you likely will need every bit of light you can catch. To emphasize the effect, you can add in post some effect (like white mist) and since original colors will look dull compared to reality, push a bit on color saturation.
I appreciate I didn't give much info there, yes it was blacklight - and very poorly lit at that.
I understand that the UV is reflected into visible spectrum by the paint pigments, that's what I was capturing, I wasn't using UV camera filters and so on.
nosys70 - thanks for the tip, I actually was looking for that effect but couldn't find anything in my Final Cut Studio - I'd seen a clip on Youtube with 'white mist' or similar 'trailing light' effect, if you know how I can get it in Final Cut I would appreciate finding this and trying it to enhance some of the shots.
Well, all in, the shoot was as successful as I could have hoped for, I knew it would be poorly set up and I just had to go with what I found there on the night.
I had to push the levels in post and the saturation and apply some stib's filters to reduce the noise levels to something resembling arty looking pics... at least the HVX200 handles colours well.
I shot at various settings and captured enough reasonable footage to make a nice little edit of the video.
Working with young bands who have no idea about film-making is not fulfilling, especially when there is no budget to take charge and determine the basics of a good shoot but what the heck we make do sometimes....
... even when asked to do things like put live gig footage over a lifeless studio track and re-time the footage too as the studio track and live track are performed at different speeds... and a never ending list of clueless behaviour that is hard to reconcile.
Moral - if you can and know you should... then just quit early on before you waste your precious time doing something that you'll never be quite happy with.
I'll post the clip but I'm just trying to add a few final touches first.
Thanks everyone!
