Filming with a 2:35:1 Aspect Ratio with the FS100

Hello everybody,

I've seen a few FS-100 videos on Vimeo that are in the 2:35:1 aspect ratio. It definitely gives the video a much more cinematic feel.
I presume it's done by just cropping their 16:9 image in post and adding black bars or what have you.

Has anybody had experience with this on their projects? Mostly my concern is that I've been reading the FS100 doesnt have a built-in 2:35:1 guideline, so for lining up shots, I'm wondering what everybody else does.

Thanks!

Yeah, I use the marks on my TVLogic or black Gaffa on the cameras monitor.
Also rubber rings do the trick.

A couple weeks back, I was DoP on a short movie. 4 days of shooting. The film has to be finished in 2.40:1 . I have masked the correct aspect ratio on the director's monitor with ND gel. I prefer NDs over gaffer since you can still view important infos like time code. For the onboard monitor, I just used the 80% guideframe. The upper and bottom lines present a sightly larger area than 2.40 (about 2.20:1) but it was enough for framing.

Definitely SONY should bring 2.40:1 marks with a firmware upgrade...

I did a test the other day with a Nikon 50mm and the Panasonic La7200 1.33 lens adapter - worked out nicely. Fairly sharp too!

Yep, agreed with all above, tape works... the SmallHD monitors with the new firmware update all have 2.35 aspect ratio guide lines ready to rock, they've been great.
