Filming tommorrow! Letterbox question!

Hi everyone! I'm filming a short:huh: skit tommorrow and I'm not sure whether to film the skit in letterbox mode or add it later in post. what should I do?

Film it in letterbox, I say. You can always crop the black bars out in post.

You'll frame your shots correctly on location rather than adjust every scene for the best frame in post. It should be easier.

No way. Film in 4:3. Just mark your LCD for letterbox (tape works well), and frame for that. There's no point in boxing yourself in like that. That way if you make a framing mistake you could fix it. You shouldn't have to adjust every shot in post. Just the ones where you really botched the framing. Why wouldn't you want that safety margin?

Another vote for shooting full 4:3. A good number of normal 35mm films are shot full-frame without a hard-matte and then adjusted in post if need, and then letterboxed.

Shoot in letterbox. That way you know how to frame everything right the first time and not have to worry about cutting it off later in post.
