Filming Small Concert, on 5D?

Hi All, I am filming a small private indoor concert at short notice next week and rather than stick with 3 x Z1 / Z5 cameras I'm looking at setting up 3 x Canon DSLR's, either 3D, 5D, 7D or 60D. I can take a feed off the sound desk onto a zoom and am not worried about synch'ing stuff up in post. Rather than risk wobbly cam with such light cameras I am going to put all 3 on tripods. Will I get a very different look if I used a mix or match of these cameras or are they all very similar in what will eventually make Digital TV? And how should I set these cameras up to get consistency between them all for this type of shoot? All help gladly received. Cheers.

Ok, Fist thinf I would do is match all the cameras clocks and picture styles perhaps using the flat settings based off of neutral or faithful and of course match your white balance settings.Good Luck!

Be wary though that if there are people in the audience firing strobes and flashes from their cameras, that it will leave horizontal bands of overexposure at irregular locations on your screen.

If you've gotten used to this then thats no problem then.

I guess the question I'd ask is -- why would you do this? What are you looking for that you're not getting out of your Z1's? Because if I had the choice, I wouldn't want to use a DSLR to film a live event, it's not really well suited to that. You don't have timecode for easy multicamera editing, and the limited record time means you'll have to stop recording every 10 minutes or so which will make continuous coverage a bit tricky... and when used continuously there's the potential of the cameras overheating. On top of that it'll be tougher to focus, the zoom lenses available for DSLRs are nowhere near as event-friendly as the zoom on a Z1, and as teddybear mentioned, the CMOS cameras are going to be subject to flash-banding where the Z1 won't be. And, as you've already found, you're going to have to sync everything up in post which, as you've said you're not worried about, but it's just yet another thing you're going to have to deal with.

I'd definitely advise you to think through this very thoroughly before you commit to it. I can see a lot of pitfalls, but not many bonuses to the idea. If it's a case of you wanting some beauty shots, how about shooting the main concert on the Sonys and using one SLR for cutaway beauty shots?
